The Snider Center at the University of Maryland R.H. Smith School of Business opened new opportunities and broadened experience for many Smith School students this summer.

The Snider Center for Enterprise and Markets aims to understand the many “why’s” of business, with the goal of bringing thinkers together to explore these ideas through respectful discourse and research. The Snider Center researchers from from a wide variety of fields, such as business, economics, history, geology, sociology, and philosophy, and aims to help students ground themselves in both business skills and the moral and ethical perspectives that help learners thrive.

The goals of the Snider Center never stop—not even during summer vacation. This summer, the center provided a variety of opportunities for Smith students to get hands-on business experience. One student, Kavon Badie, was able to travel to Kampala, Uganda, while serving as an operations analyst intern for Johns Hopkins Hospital. Since returning, Badie has launched Project MZZ, which provides business consultations to companies in developing nations. Another student, Perveen Gulati, was able to take part in the Girls Who Invest intensive summer internship, which aims to increase the number of woman in finances. After a four week program at the University of Pennsylvania, Gulati was able to intern for six-weeks at the Alternative Investment Group in Fairfield, Conn.

Some students, such as Sheida Gholamimehrabadi, saw the fruits of their time at Smith and the Snider Center as they began a new job this summer. Having just graduated in May, Gholamimehrabadi joined KPMG’s commercial auditing practice.
