Jindal School Alum Honored by the ‘Dallas Business Journal’
An MBA alumna from the University of Texas at Dallas – Naveen Jindal School of Management was recently named a “Women in Business” honoree at the 2017 Dallas Business Journal’s Women in Business Awards.
Each year, the journal presents awards to women who have made an impact in business and in communities throughout North Texas. For the second year in a row, the awards have included a Women in Tourism category, the field in which Jindal alum Mitzi Chamakala Chollampel has made her greatest impact.
Chollampel earned her MBA from the Jindal School in 2004 after graduating the University of Texas-Austin with a BBA in marketing. Currently, she serves as the senior manager for international marketing and public relations at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
Chollampel lived and worked in various places after earning her degrees, but was ultimately drawn back to her Texas roots. Thanks to her father, who had formerly worked as a consultant to airport executives years before, Chollampel was notified about and applied for the position at DFW Airport. In 2008, she began at the airport in the role of trade marketing manager, a position she held until 2015. In that year, the airport underwent a number of changes, asking Chollampel to help launch a new brand for the airport abroad.
Never losing her connection with her alma mater, Chollampel found the alumni network and resources at Jindal to be an indelible part of making the transition back to Texas and into a new role.
“[T]he alumni center was a great network that I used when making this move,” she commented. “I was changing states and needed to know what my resources were. I actually reached out to the UTD network first. There are so many connections to be made through the alumni center.”
