The Mendoza College of Business family lost a beloved member last month after the passing of Robert K. Wilmouth, a longtime Trustee of the University of Notre Dame and past chair of its Investment Committee. Wilmouth died on September 14.
To honor his memory, the Notre Dame Institute for Global Investing has established the Robert K. Wilmouth Lecture Series, made possible through a generous gift from members of the Notre Dame family. According to a press release, the lecture series will invite some of the brightest minds in the investment industry to share their thoughts and experiences to Notre Dame students and faculty.
“Through the Wilmouth Lecture Series, our students will be better prepared to meet the demands of tomorrow,” Kevin Burke, Managing Director of NDIG, said. “With the generous support of friends like Bob Wilmouth, we are fostering highly skilled, ethical leaders so the investment management industry will evolve for the better.”
The Lecture Series will not only educate current and future students, but also honor Wilmouth’s legacy for years to come. Wilmouth founded the National Futures Association in 1982, and served as its president and chief executive officer for more than 20 years. He was also president and CEO of the Chicago Board of Trade for five years, and served as the chairman of the board of LaSalle Bank for more than 20 years.
Before his time serving at the Board of Trade, Wilmouth spent two years as a director and the president of Crocker National Bank in San Francisco, having previously spent nearly 20 years at The First National Bank of Chicago. He frequently donated his energy to various civic and charitable boards, including Notre Dame.
“Bob was a dear friend, mentor and titan of the financial services industry,” said Scott Malpass, Vice President, Chief Investment Officer and a concurrent professor in at Mendoza. “His visionary leadership guided the transformation of our endowment to one of the largest and most successful in the nation.”
