Mays Offers New Scholarship
The Mays Business School at Texas A&M University has received a gift from Mays alumna Denise Byington ’86 and her husband, Texas A&M University alumnus Bert Garcia ’81. Byington received a degree in finance while Garcia received a degree in engineering. The alumni couple have contributed $30,000 to Mays to establish a scholarship to support students who share Byington’s interest in finance. The scholarship has been named the Denise Byington ’86 and Bert Garcia ’81 Endowed Scholarship in Finance.
“It’s important for us to give back after a couple of successful careers,” said Byington. “And as the parent of a college-aged child, we understand how difficult it can be to pay for a college education. If we could help some future Aggies, we would love to do that – especially if it is for a deserving business student.”
The Denise Byington ’86 and Bert Garcia ’81 Endowed Scholarship in Finance will be awarded to a deserving student who demonstrates financial need and is pursuing an education in finance or in supply chain management, their daughter’s area of interest.
“This is an example of the Aggie spirit at work,” said Eli Jones, dean of Mays Business School. “These two former students could have done so many things with their money, and they are choosing to help boost the future students of Mays. Such dedication is what keeps our programs alive and ensures our legacy as a top-notch business school.”
