Johns Hopkins Carey Business School

History

The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School opened in January 2007. It was built using a $50 million donation from William Polk Carey, who wished to name the school after his great-great-great grandfather, a businessman in Baltimore. However, business education at Johns Hopkins dates back to 1916, when the school first began offering classes in Business Economics. The school earned accreditation by the AACSB in February 2017. Grounded in the Johns Hopkins’ legacy of excellence and research, we aren’t trapped by tradition. We’re inspired by it. Our full-time, part-time, and online MBA and MS degrees in Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are data driven, built to compete in the global marketplace. The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School’s main campus is situated in Baltimore, Md.’s Harbor East neighborhood. Once home to factories and businesses that comprised much of Baltimore’s industrial heart, Harbor East has emerged as the city’s business hub and the pulse for innovation in Baltimore. The Baltimore campus of the Carey Business School is located next to the Inner Harbor in the state-of-the-art Legg Mason Building, featuring almost 146,000 square feet for classrooms, student study areas and organizations, and offices.

The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School’s Washington D.C. campus is located in the Dupont Circle neighborhood, just steps from many of the nation’s most prestigious think tanks, research centers, and global corporations as well as famous landmarks like the White House and the U.S. Capitol. In addition, the renowned Johns Hopkins Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) is just a few steps from campus.

Faculty

Carey Business School students have the opportunity to study with faculty across the university, including the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab as well as the Schools of Engineering, Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Arts, and Sciences, and Advanced International Studies.

The Carey School of Business employs 107 full-time faculty members and four Bloomberg Distinguished Professors.

To enhance the learning experience, from time to time, the Carey Business School invites seasoned executives to spend concentrated time on campus and share real-world experiences with the students.

Student Body

Over 2,386 graduate and undergraduate students are enrolled in the Carey Business School. The students represent more than 60 different countries. Around 43 percent of students are enrolled full-time, with 57 percent enrolled part-time. The majority of the student body is represented by female students at 53 percent, with 47 percent male students. About 48 percent of these students are enrolled in MBA programs, with 51 percent in MS programs, and 1 percent in certification programs.

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School offers a full-time Johns Hopkins MBA, as well as a Flexible MBA, and several MBA dual degree programs.
