Lazaridis School Wins Big in January Business Case Competitions

Students at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Lazaridis School of Business and Economics won a record number of business case competitions in January 2016. Their most recent win was for the Canadian Association of Business Students’ (CABS) JDC Central competition.

For the seventh year in a row, the Lazaridis School won the prestigious “School of Year” awards from the CABS competition—beating out 13 other universities. In fact, the School has remained undefeated since the start of JDC Central.

Other awards that the 43-member team took home included second place for the Academic Cup, first place for the Debate Award, second place for the Participation Award, second place for the Social Award, and Top Dollars Raised for Charity.

Three, fourth-year business students from the Lazaridis School also participated in JD Central as the finance team and challenged students from 17 other schools. They came in third.

Beyond the JD Central competition, Lazaridis School students also participated in the Inter-Collegiate Business Competition (ICBC) finals at Queen’s University. The students placed second in the ethics competition and were finalists in the accounting competition.

For the 2016 DECA U Provincials, the 121 members of the Lazaridis School team took home 29 medals. A few of the medals included the Largest Chapter Award, second place in the Quiz Bowl, and the Highest Medal Count. They beat out 22 other universities in the competition.

The Lazaridis School MBA program also took home a January 2016 win. They competed in the Inter-University Case Conference (IUCC) and won first place for their solution to a business case about the Kitchener Rangers. As for the John Molson MBA International Case Competition, Lazaridis School MBAs placed fifth in their division.

In a press release from the university, the dean of the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics spoke about the impressive case competition wins. “I’m so proud of all of our students,” said Micheál Kelly. “They represented us as true leaders and showed the quality business education they’ve received at the Lazaridis School. With this much success already, I’m confident that the Lazaridis School has a promising year ahead.”
