Stetson School Seeking Pitches for Next Big Idea Competition

It’s that time of the year again at the Mercer University – Eugene W. Stetson School of Business & Economics: the Mercer Innovation Center (MIC) is seeking entrepreneurs with innovative business pitches for the Next Big Idea competition this April.

The Next Big Idea Competition is open to undergraduate students who can either enter as individuals or in teams of up to five students. Participants are encouraged to involve alumni, faculty, staff and members of the business community to offer feedback and inspire good work.

Although The Next Big Idea competition is open only to undergraduate business students at Mercer, the finals will be open to the entire University community and give graduate level students the opportunity to see the inspiring work and entrepreneurship happening right in their own backyard.

“The Next Big Idea pitch competition meets a primary goal of the Mercer Innovation Center, which is to inspire a spirit of entrepreneurship among our students … We are looking forward to the development of many new entrepreneurial ventures from this competition,” said Dr. Briana Stenard, assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship at Stetson.

Students looking to participate in the pitch competition will first submit their ideas in March, in the form of a two-minute pitch video and one-page business canvas. Finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panelist of judges at the finals in April, held in the MIC.

Not only will The Next Big Idea competition give students a fantastic opportunity to develop their own pitches and work closely with the Mercer community, but there are monetary prizes at stake as well. The first place team will walk away with $6,000; $2,500 for the second place team, and a $500 Bear’s Choice Award for the video which receives the most votes on the competition’s YouTube channel.
