George Washington Business School Appoints Professor of Management Christopher Kayes as Interim Dean
George Washington University School of Business recently made a decided shift in leadership. The school’s Dean and Vice President for China operations, Doug Guthrie, left both his administrative positions in late August, but resumed his duties as a Professor of Management and International Business. Guthrie, whose tenure as Dean began in 2010, was replaced by Interim Dean Christopher Kayes, Professor and Department Chair of Management and senior fellow at GW’s Center for Excellence in Public Leadership.
Dean Kayes is a renowned business scholar who has published prolifically and taught at several international business programs before joining GW in 2005. Kayes has four upcoming publications which will expand an already substantial body of scholarship: The Learning Advantage: Six Practices of Learning-Directed Leadership (Macmillan), Destructive Goal Pursuit: The Mt. Everest Disaster (Macmillan), Contemporary Organizational Behavior in Action (Pearson), and The Breakdown of Learning in Organizations (Oxford University Press).
As George Washington’s School of Business adjusts its leadership and the competition and reach of its MBA programs, Dean Kayes should prove to be a reliable and popular choice. A recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Teaching Award, Kayes has shown himself to be a fierce business scholar and a highly effective instructor.
