Alumna Credits St. John’s With Business Inspiration
The St. John’s University’s Tobin College of Business website recently featured the story of MBA alumna Tara Nolan ’11. After graduating from St. John’s University, Nolan started her own business called IntersailClub, a travel service that arranges sailing vacations. Nolan says that without her St. John’s education, she would not have had the experience that gave her the idea for her business.
During her MBA studies, Nolan spent a semester at the Rome campus of St. John’s University. While studying abroad, Nolan had the chance to tour Europe with her friends from the university. Nolan discovered a business called Cabin Charter, a company that allows travelers to book cabins on small sailing vessels. Nolan was inspired by the company, and she created her own business plan for IntersailClub after graduation to expand on the company’s basic idea.
“Without having gone to Rome to gain the business acumen I received at St. John’s, and partake in the European lifestyle I had at my disposal, there is no way IntersailClub would have ever materialized,” Nolan said. “St. John’s gave me the power to create.”
Nolan is also the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications at PHD Worldwide, a global communications and media company. She helps the company develop long-term strategic initiatives and makes sure that the company maintains a consistent brand.
Nolan also stressed her continued involvement in the St. John’s community. “St. John’s attracts a variety of interesting people that end up going on to do great things. We have a wide-spanning global network, so it would be hard not to want to stay connected to all of that.”
