An Evening Not to Be Missed: Smith’s Monte Carlo Night

The time has almost come for the one night graduate students and alumni of the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business know they can’t miss: the 12th Annual Monte Carlo Night Gala will bring together MBA, MS, and PhD students; alumni; and faculty for a night of fun, dancing and gaming.

Monte Carlo Night takes place on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Ritz Carlton in Washington, DC and is hosted by the Smith Full-Time, Part-Time MBA and Masters Student Associations. Things kick off at 8 pm and the party will rock until midnight.  Tickets are still available for $85. In the spirit of “Terps Helping Terps,” proceeds from ticket sales go to support a merit-based scholarship fund.Monte Carlo Night has become an important part of the Smith experience. Described by Chengyu (Dean) Shen, former President of the Smith Master’s Student Association, as maybe “the most magnificent night during your time at Smith,” the event originally started in 2002. Monte Carlo night is about fun but it also benefits the M. Scott Lamana and Eric Cranford Memorial MBA Fellowship Fund that remembering the part-time Smith MBA students who perished in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon.

“Monte Carlo is not only a night to honor members of the Smith family and contribute to the scholarship that was named in their memory, but it’s a night to celebrate together as classmates and as a community” student organizer Susan Johnson (MBA ’14) said.  “This year, we’ve introduced charter bus services from Baltimore so that many more students can participate from across the Smith graduate programs.”
