Southern Methodist One-Year MBA Program Structure

The Southern Methodist University One-Year Track MBA is a full-time, 12-month program with a concentrated curriculum. This program is ideal for early career professionals. This program requires students to complete only 44 credit hours.

The program is completed over three terms; summer, fall, and spring.

Curriculum

The program begins in the summer. Students complete 12 credits. During the first term, students complete general business courses that will lay the foundation for the program.

During the fall term students complete 16 credits. In addition to the general business courses students will also complete electives.

Over the spring term students will complete only 16 credits of electives.

Students may also complete a concentration within the MBA degree. They will be automatically enrolled in the General Business concentration until or unless they choose otherwise.

Concentration options include accounting, finance, general business, information technology and operations management, marketing, real estate and strategy and entrepreneurship.

Class Profile

On average, students in the program have four and a half years of work experience and are 28-years old.

Students in the one-year program usually have undergraduate degrees in business or economics and have experience in the career field they wish to pursue post MBA. The average GMAT of the class of 2020 is 612, the average GPA is 3.27, and 33 percent of the class are women.

The program is most suitable for professionals with a minimum of two years full-time work experience.

Tuition, Scholarships, and Financial Aid

Tuition and fees for the Southern Methodist University One-Year MBA are $72,570. This cost includes tuition, program fees and general student fees. This estimated cost does not include books and materials or other outside school costs, which bring the total estimated cost to $98,770.

The school accepts federal student loans, private loans and private scholarships. Admissions and Financial Aid representatives at Cox are available to help students with the process of securing all necessary funding to attend the SMU Cox MBA program.

Admissions

In order to be considered for admission at the Cox School of Business, applicants must complete the following steps for the application:

Submit the application forms found in the online application, provide a copy of their professional résumé, complete three essays (topics available online), submit GMAT or GRE scores, provide copies of degreed undergraduate transcripts and provide two professional references (names and contact information only).

International applicants must also provide TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson Test of English scores (if applicable).

Applicants for the Southern Methodist One-Year Track MBA program at the Cox School of Business are required to take the GMAT. The average GMAT score of students in the program is between 590 and 710. Applicants must also possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution. Students are also required to have a minimum of two years of full-time work experience.

The Cox School does not require applicants to pay an application fee.
