University of Washington Foster Master of Science in Entrepreneurship

The Master of Science in Entrepreneurship is a 12-month degree from the top-ranked University of Washington Foster School of Business. Taught by Foster’s award-winning faculty and expert entrepreneurs, this program combines the same rigor and reputation of a traditional Foster MBA with a curriculum designed to guide you through the real-world entrepreneurial process to develop new companies. Seattle is a global innovation hub and the ideal place to launch and grow your new venture. This degree is full-time, meets during the day, and allows you to work on your own startup while in the program.

Curriculum

The curriculum for the Foster MS in Entrepreneurship one-year program follows the same path as a startup, from ideation and testing to refining and preparing to scale. It is comprised of 46 credits of required courses that follow a lock-step model and are planned in sequential order, taught over four quarters. Each quarter includes a lead course oriented around a set of challenges that are particularly salient in that stage of the entrepreneurial process.

Courses cover topics such as Opportunity Recognition and Validation, Competitive Strategy, Sales for Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneurial Marketing, Entrepreneurial Finance, Legal Essentials, Persuasion, Successful Negotiations, Strategies for Scaling and Funding Ventures, Entrepreneurial Leadership, and more. Our program is the ideal place to gain the confidence, competence, and community to launch and grow a new venture.

In addition, students will receive direct mentoring from leading Seattle entrepreneurs and investors. Students also attend entrepreneurial workshops each quarter and have the opportunity to apply to a variety of startup competitions.

Class Profile for the Foster MS in Entrepreneurship

The Foster MS in Entrepreneurship accepted 29 students in the class of 2021, 38 percent of whom are female, and 43 percent of whom are under-represented minorities. Veterans make up 7 percent of the current class. Students averaged 4 years of work experience and range from 21-51 years old. Roughly 40 percent of students were previous entrepreneurs.

Tuition, Scholarships, and Financial Aid for the Foster MS in Entrepreneurship

The tuition cost for the Foster MS in Entrepreneurship is $28,000 for in-state residents, and $43,000 for non-residents.

U.S. students are eligible for federal and private loans. There is currently a $5,000 need-based scholarship given each year to one MS in Entrepreneurship student. U.S. military veterans may be eligible for benefits to help fund tuition and fees. There are also scholarship opportunities available through UW’s Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP).

Admissions

GMAT or GRE scores are not required. Application components include two recommendations, two essays, transcripts, a short video, resume, and proof of English proficiency (if necessary), along with an $85 application fee. Applicants are required to hold a U.S. bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited university, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 for the last 90-quarter or 60-semester credits.

Application Deadlines

Applications are reviewed in batches (Rounds) for the Foster MS in Entrepreneurship. Deadlines are as follows:

Round 1 – October 18 (Open to all applicants)
Round 2 – February 8 (Priority deadline for domestic applicants, the final deadline for international applicants planning to apply for a new student visa)
