Minnesota Carlson Online MBA Program Structure
The AACSB-accredited Online MBA program at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management is a 52-credit program with a flexible schedule that can be completed in as little as two years. Students can take courses in a condensed format and standard evening and weekend courses. The program begins in the fall, spring, and summer.
Students start the Online MBA program with a recommended sequence of core courses followed by elective course offerings tailored to help you broaden your skillset in the areas of business that are important to you. The entire program, however, is not online. Students undertake in-person residencies at the beginning and end of the program, as well as a required global residency. These experiences deepen students’ connections to the broader Minneapolis-St. Paul business community and strengthen their professional network.
Curriculum
Students in the Minnesota Carlson Online MBA program begin with a traditional orientation, leading right into the core curriculum, which includes classes in management and financial accounting. Core classes are typically worth two or three credits, with two-credit courses lasting four weeks and three-credit courses lasting 11 weeks. In all, a standard Online MBA schedule usually features eight credits (three classes) per semester.
In year two, students complete the majority of their elective coursework, which can be chosen from a lengthy list of options, covering specializations like accounting, finance, human resources, and more. Several courses in the second year may be worth as many as four credits each. However, these courses require an entire semester to complete. An optional residency and required global residency can also be completed in year two.
