Darla Moore School of Business – University of South Carolina

History

The University of South Carolina business school was originally founded in 1919 as the School of Commerce. In the 1940s, after the conclusion of World War II, the school was renamed as the School of Business Administration and began offering its first Master of Science in Business Administration degree. In 1959, the school offered its first official MBA degree, earning AACSB-accredited soon-there-after for both its undergraduate and graduate business programs. In the mid-60s, shortly after earning accreditation, the school was renamed again as the College of Business Administration and began offering its Ph.D. in Business Administration and Master of Accountancy degrees.

In 1998, four years after business school introduced what would become the International MBA program, investor, philanthropist, and University of South Carolina alumnus Darla Moore donated $25 million to the school, which was then renamed in her honor.
