Ashridge Business School is sponsoring the HR Summit and Expo, a two-day event at the Dubai World Trade Centre that invites professionals from the Middle East and worldwide to network, learn and discover developments in the field.
The Expo kicked off on November 16, 2015, with a talk by Dean of Faculty and Director of Research, Dr. Vicki Culpin.
Ashridge Business School Research Reveals New Insights into Middle East’s Gen Y
A new study by Ashridge Business School reveals that the Generation Y workforce in the Middle East is exceptionally driven, hungry for educational opportunities and values the role of older colleagues. The research also shows that there are opportunities for managers to adopt different leadership style and support soft skills development to create a work environment that enables ambitious young Gulf nationals to thrive.
The report, entitled A New Generation: The Success of Generation Y in GCC Countries, is based on a survey of 300 local Gen Y (those aged 30 years and under) employees across the GCC countries. It provides new insights for managers and employers to better understand, lead and develop the Gen Y workforce.

Ashridge Professor To Release Book On Market Capitalism Reform
Ashridge Business School’s Eve Poole will release a new book on March 26th. The book is the first to critique all of the assumptions on which Market Capitalism is based in one volume and propose a unique new agenda. This book is the first to critique all of the assumptions on which Market Capitalism is based in one volume and propose a unique new agenda.
Eve Poole teaches at Ashridge Business School. She has also worked for Deloitte Consulting in the financial services industry; and the Church Commissioners, who run a £6 billion portfolio. Her clients range from EY and Tesco to the Foreign Office and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and this breadth of experience makes her a popular commentator on leadership, ethics, and public life.

Royal Mail CEO Wins Ashridge Leader of the Year Award
Moya Greene, the CEO of Royal Mail, was named the Ashridge Business School Leader of the Year at the 2014 National Business Awards gala dinner ceremony last night, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane.
Moya led the flotation of Royal Mail three years after becoming its CEO in 2010 – the biggest privatisation in almost 30 years, with 10% of the company given to employees as part of the largest free share offer in UK corporate history. She is also the first woman to hold the post.
Judges looked at how these leaders have demonstrated the best balance between traditional board values and the new business environment – achieving measured and sustainable growth or driving improved performance.

New Research Into the Dangerous Side of Business Leadership
A new book from Ashridge Business School by co-authors Erik de Haan and Anthony Kasozi. explains what makes managers act out the dangerous, darker side of their leadership, and provides methods for identifying and challenging self-defeating behaviours to ensure that leadership shadows or ‘gremlins’ are disciplined.
Based on extensive research, The Leadership Shadow: How to Recognise and Avoid Derailment, Hubris and Overdrive draws on insights from psychiatry and psychotherapy to reveal how derailment occurs when managers’ strengths are overused, and how to avoid downfalls. Using examples drawn from executives’ experiences and descriptions of psychological behaviours based on well-established sources, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) and the Hogan Personality Inventory model, the authors demonstrate how to find stability in the face of uncertainty, resilience in the face of gruelling demand, and psychological stability as a leader.
