Round One Application Deadline for Olin Nov. 1

The first round of application deadline for the Two-Year and One-Year MBA programs at F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business is Nov. 1. Petia Whitmore, Dean of the Graduate School Admissions at Babson gave prospective students some advice for getting the application completed by the deadline. She advices applicants to carefully review the details of the application process and the requirements for admission for the program that they are applying to.

Babson Receives $10k Grant from Avon Foundation for Women

Babson College has received a $10,000 grant from the Avon Foundation for Women. The grant was given to the school through The Avon Foundation’s Speak Out Against Domestic Violence initiative. The award will go toward the funding for the development of a bystander intervention program. This new program will be developed through Babson’s new Office of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Services.

The Avon Foundation for Women has given 25 grants, totaling $25,000 to colleges nationwide. The awards will all go toward the funding of educational programs on preventing dating abuse, violence, sexual assault and the promotion of healthy relationships. The grant also provides local resources and referrals for community based experts. In addition to the educational programs, the grants will also support educator training, materials and support sessions.

Babson Names Vice Provost of Global Entrepreneurial Leadership

Babson College has announced that Franklin W. Olin Professor in Entrepreneurship Dr. Candida G. Brush has been appointed the Vice Provost of Global Entrepreneurial Leadership. In her new role at the school, Dr. Brush will work to coordinate and connect all entrepreneurial aspects of Babson college and broaden the school’s reputation to advance economic and social value on a global scale.

In addition to serving as the F.W. Olin Professor in Entrepreneurship, Dr. Brush also serves as the Faculty Research Director of the Arthur M. Blank Center and has served as the Division Chair for Entrepreneurship for the past 10 years. Additionally, she has served on the development team for the new Masters of Science in Management and Entrepreneurial Leadership program at Babson and the Bertarelli Foundation Endowed Chair Task Force.

Babson Alumni Selected to Serve on Boston Olympics Advisory Board

Boston ranked #9 for young entrepreneurs

Two Babson alumni and entrepreneurs have been selected to serve on the 2024 Boston Olympics Advisory Board. The two selected are Jon Feinman M’10 and Jason Jacobs M’05. The 2024 Boston Olympics Advisory Board members will work toward advancing the Boston area with the vision of hosting the 2024 Olympic games.

The Board will provide governance oversight on issues regarding the city’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics. The Board will also oversee the final bid for the games. Co-owner and Managing Partner of the Boston Celtics, Steve Pagliuca, will serve as chair the Board. Pagliuca is also the Managing Director at Bain Capital.

Business Schools Focus on Sustainable Business

Business schools all over the country have embraced the trend of green business. Universities and their students are working towards creating sustainable business practices and created an environment that will positively impact the world. In celebration of Earth Day, several business schools held events to create awareness and interest in these new business practices.

Earth Day is not the only time that business schools work toward creating innovative green business, more schools offer MBA programs in sustainable business than ever before. Babson College’s F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business offers more than a dozen classes on sustainability. The school also has several sustainable programs on campus. In 2010, the University began working with higher-education-focused energy company to assist in creating the first Sustainability Office on campus.

Babson Announces Commencement Speakers

F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business will host Richard Saul Wurman as the School’s speaker for its commencement ceremony. Wurman is an architect and graphic designer who co-founded the popular TED Conference. The commencement ceremony will be held May 16. Wurman co-founded the TED Conference in 1984 and chaired the conference from 1984 to 2002. Wurman has written, designed and published more than 90 books.

In addition to Richard Saul Wurman, Kevin Colleran will serve as the speaker for the Babson College commencement speaker. Kevin Colleran, who is also a Babson alumnus, is Facebook’s first ad salesperson. Colleran joined Facebook in April 2005 as one of the first 10 employees of the company. He remained with Facebook until 2011 and in 2012, he became a venture partner with General Catalyst Partners in Cambridge. Along with his work at General Catalyst, Colleran is also a managing partner at Slow Ventures.
