Robert H. Gertner is the Joel F. Gemunder Professor of Strategy and Finance and Deputy Dean for the Part-Time MBA Programs at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Gertner teaches courses in strategic decision-making, entrepreneurial strategy, and social entrepreneurship. He teaches three courses, one in the Spring, Winter and Summer respectively: New Social Ventures, Global New Venture Challenge I. Continue reading…
New Booth Study Finds Employers Prefer to Hear Interviewee’s Voice
According to a new study by Booth School of Business professor Nicholas Epley and Ph.D. candidate Juliana Schroeder found that when employers and recruiters listened to a job candidates qualifications from their own mouth as opposed to reading them, the candidates were rated as more competent, thoughtful and intelligent, even when the words used were exactly the same. So it’s your voice that may actually help you land the job of your dreams job.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: Sunil Kumar, Dean of the Booth School of Business
Just like at any job, when attending b-school it’s important to know who your boss is. At the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, that head-honcho is the school’s Dean, Sunil Kumar.
Kumar joined the school’s faculty on January 1, 2011 as Dean and Professor of Operations Management. Throughout his time as dean, Kumar’s primary focus has been on expanding the number of faculty members at the school, supporting the needs of various, diverse student aspirations, expanding the reach of the school’s programs, and executing a careful global strategy. Booth’s New Venture Challenge Given Accolades at SXSW
Booth School of Business’ New Venture Challenge (NVC) was named as a top accelerator program in the country at South by Southwest, according to a press release on the business school’s website. Run by the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Chicago Booth, the program was ranked fourth in research released by the Seed Accelerator Rankings Program, which aims to begin a larger conversation about what makes seed accelerators successful and provide entrepreneurs with a tool to help them decide which seed accelerators are a good match for their startup. Booth Executive MBAs Participate in The Financial Times MBA Quiz
A team of Executive MBA students from The Booth School of Business participated in the 2nd annual Financial Times MBA Quiz — a fast-paced competition pitting ten business schools against each other for charity. The quiz was moderated by Financial Times Management Editor, Andrew Hill, at the publication’s London office.
According to a press release on the school’s website, the event raised £40,000 for International Rescue Committee, a humanitarian charity that works across the globe on various crises. The participating teams raised £20,000 from combined entry fees, and the UK Government matched the team’s contributions. Continue reading…
Booth Names Clifford Chiu Hong Kong Campus’ Executive-in-Residence
The Booth School of Business has appointed Clifford Chiu as the first Distinguished Executive-in-Residence for the school’s new Hong Kong campus. According to a press release by the University of Chicago, Chiu is a senior adviser at Neuberger Berman Group and at Angelo, Gordon & Co., as well as a non-executive director of Hsin Chong Construction Group and Cambium Learning Group. He retired last year as a partner of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co., where he led capital raising and investor relations for the Asia Pacific region. Continue reading…
