Booth Research Finds High Performance Employees Likely To Start-Up Own Ventures
Oftentimes, entrepreneurs are seen as “corporate misfits”– those who ditch the 9-5 lifestyle for “a life of untold riches and the satisfaction of being one’s own boss.” But according to new research from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, entrepreneurs aren’t always corporate misfits, but in fact just the opposite. As Chicago Booth’s Amanda Sharkey and Stanford’s Jesper Sorensen write in their paper, “Entrepreneurship as a Mobility Process,” when they decide to make a move, individuals who are an especially good fit with their employers are more likely to start their own businesses rather than jump to a rival. Booth Alumnus Alvarez named CEO of Large Spanish Bank
Jose Antonio Alvarez, a member of Chicago Booth’s inaugural Executive MBA Program Europe class in Barcelona in ’96, has been named CEO of Banco Santander. Previously Alvarez held the position of CFO at the Spanish banking giant for more than a decade. His new appointment and role takes effect on the first day of the New Year. Continue reading…
Booth Professors Highlight Annual National Association for Business Economics Meeting
Five Booth School of Business professors discussed economics at the 56th annual National Association for Business Economics meeting in Chicago– a three-day conference that brought some of the best and brightest economic minds together to formulate a long-term view of the economy.
In the first session, professors Steven J. Davis and Erik Hurst tackled the issue of labor quality, professors Austan Goolsbee and Randall Kroszner explored fiscal choices for the long run, and Professor Anil Kashyap discussed lessons from monetary policy when interest rates are at or near zero. Booth, Chicago Urban League Join to Create Leadership Program
Chicago Booth faculty will be instructing 34 accomplished African-American professionals as part of a leadership program run by the Chicago Urban League. The IMPACT Leadership Development Program’s mission is to develop African-American leaders in the private, non-profit, and public sectors. Booth will serve as the Urban League’s education partner, providing programming, faculty, and classroom space for the nine-month session. Continue reading…
Booth EMBA Ranked as Best in the World
According to a ranking by Poets & Quants, Booth School of Business offers the world’s top EMBA program. The Chicago-based program moved up from No. 2, trumping the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, which held the No. 1 spot for the past three years.
