Booth’s New Venture Challenge Given Accolades at SXSW

Booth School of Business’ New Venture Challenge (NVC)  was named as a top accelerator program in the country at South by Southwest, according to a press release on the business school’s website. Run by the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Chicago Booth, the program was ranked fourth in research released by the Seed Accelerator Rankings Program, which aims to begin a larger conversation about what makes seed accelerators successful and provide entrepreneurs with a tool to help them decide which seed accelerators are a good match for their startup. Course Spotlight: DePaul’s Service Design and Patient Experience

Andrew Gallan, an assistant professor of marketing at DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, teaches the school’s “Service Design and Patient Experience” course. A part of DePaul’s Healthcare Sector Management MBA concentration, the class focuses on a patient’s hospital experience.

Patient experience is all about improving service to healthcare customers: everything from clarity in clinical communication to lobby lighting and the softness of beds. Today, hospitals, doctors’ offices and outpatient clinics are all looking for ways to get high marks in their patient satisfaction scores. Continue reading…

DePaul Student Innovation Awards Celebrates Fresh Business Ideas

DePaul students were celebrated for their achievements in innovation at the fifth annual Student Innovation Awards on Feb. 12, at TechNexus, one of Chicago’s premier collaborative working spaces and innovation hubs. $7,500 in scholarship money was awarded to students whose innovative ideas have aided in inventing or improving a new product, service, process or technology.

“We created the Student Innovation Awards because students were generating so many amazing ideas,” Lisa Gundry, director of the Center of Creativity and Innovation, said in a press release on the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business website. “We wanted to encourage students by supporting them through scholarships. The act of articulating an idea to develop and implement takes a lot of creativity and persistence—and it’s important to recognize their efforts in support of innovation.” Continue reading…

DePaul MBAs Start New Service Project with Misericordia

Students in DePaul University’s full-time MBA program at the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business are engaged in a new community service project with the heartfelt mission of a local non-profit, Misericordia, which support individuals with developmental disabilities in maximizing their level of independence and self-determination.

Kellstadt was connected with Misericordia through their Chief Financial Officer Kevin Connelly, a 2001 DePaul MBA graduate. He is one of a quartet of leaders at Misericordia who have connections to DePaul through degrees or other associations. Continue reading…
