Columbia Prof Named Direct. of Chazen Institute

Wei Jiang, the Arthur F. Burns Professor of Free and Competitive Enterprise in the Finance and Economics Division, has been appointed Director of the Columbia Business School’s Jerome A. Chazen Institute of International Business.

Jiang joined Columbia Business School in 2001. Her research focuses on institutional investors. She is a four-time recipient of teaching excellence awards. She is highly involved as a faculty member, having also served on the faculty advisory boards of the Chazen Institute, the Heilbrunn Center for Graham & Dodd Investing, and the Richard Paul Richman Center for Business, Law, and Public Policy.

She is also currently the finance area editor of Management Science and associate editor at the Journal of Finance and Review of Financial Studies.

Rutgers Business School Professors Among Winners of 2014 Faculty Awards

Three Rutgers Business School professors were among 35 faculty members across Rutgers University who received awards on May 7 honoring them for teaching, scholarly excellence and leadership.

Professor Jeffrey Robinson, who is part of the Management and Global Business faculty, was chosen to receive the Presidential Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. The award provides Robinson with $1,000 for research expenses. Dr. Robinson received a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in Management from Columbia University. His research describes how business practices and entrepreneurship can be used to impact societal issues.  He is the author of books and articles on such topics as social entrepreneurship, African American women in entrepreneurship, and patterns of Black employment. In 2007, he was selected as the recipient of the Aspen Institute’s Social Impact Faculty Pioneer Award for his research, service and teaching activities at the intersection of business and society.  In 2011, his course, Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, was recognized as a model of Innovative Entrepreneurship Education by the U.S. Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Columbia Business School Mourns Professor Emeritus Gerald Brady

Columbia Business School mourns the passing of Gerald Brady ’58, a Columbia University faculty member for more than 30 years and a professor emeritus of the Business School, who died at home on April 16 at age 84.

Brady first joined Columbia as an undergraduate student, earning his BA in 1951. He was a dedicated athlete and played on the Columbia basketball team through his freshman and sophomore years. Brady was enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War during combat as a first lieutenant and an anti-aircraft artillery officer. He also taught soldiers English, math, and other academic subjects. Upon discharge from the army, he returned to Columbia, where he earned his LLB from Columbia Law School in 1957 and his MS from Columbia Business School in 1958. Continue reading…
