Cranfield Introduces New Specialist Masters Programs
The Cranfield School of Management will be adding two new full-time specialist masters programs. The new programs, the MSc in Management and Entrepreneurship and the MSc in Management and Economics are planned to be launched this September. These new programs are offered along with eight other specialist masters programs at Cranfield. Theses new programs are both full time programs that can be completed in one year.
The one-year MSc in Management and Entrepreneurship will focus on teaching students how to start their own business, grow a family business or innovate inside an existing organization. Students in this program will learn how to write business plans and to understand investor decisions. Students will also have the opportunity to join Cranfield’s entrepreneurship club, participate in business plan competitions and grow their network through speaker and networking events.
Cranfield Researchers Publish Work on Social Identity and the Marketplace
A team of Cranfield School of Management researchers published telling information on why social identity is so important in the marketplace. Dr. Emma Macdonald and Professor Hugh Wilson, along with former PhD student Guy Champniss, have this article published published in the Harvard Business Review (HBR).
Their article explores how social identities guide people’s behaviour at any given moment. Dr. Macdonald commented: “Over the past five years, we have been studying how social identity shapes customers’ behaviour, working with organisations in sectors as diverse as consumer packaged goods, retail, professional services, and philanthropy. We know that companies can subtly influence which social identities customers will tap into and can even foster new identities altogether with very little effort.”

Cranfield Professor Awarded CBE For Contributions To Gender Equality
Cranfield University School of Management’s Professor Susan Vinnicombe was honoured at Windsor Castle by Her Majesty the Queen for services to gender equality.
Professor Vinnicombe was presented with her CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth at a prestigious ceremony marking her significant contribution to increasing gender diversity on corporate boards over the past 15 years.

First Woman To Receive Prestigious Agriculture Scholarship Is A Cranfield MBA Student
The first ever female recipient of a national farming scholarship is nearly halfway through her MBA at Cranfield School of Management.
Sarah Wells, a business support manager at Countrywide Farmers, started studying at Cranfield in January 2014 thanks to the MBA Agrifarm Charitable Foundation.
Says Sarah: “The Cranfield MBA provides an excellent grounding in all the essential subjects, from marketing and business strategies to finance and logistics. I’ve always known that I wanted a career in agriculture and I’m keen to demonstrate that, in agriculture, women do just as well as men. It’s really interesting that other students on the course are surprised by just how sophisticated and well developed agriculture needs to be, and has become.”
The MBA Agrifarm Charitable Foundation was established on his retirement by John Beckett, the outgoing chairman of Genus, a business selling products to cattle and pig farmers.
The scholarship is granted each year to the candidate who can demonstrate not only that they will benefit from studying at Cranfield, but also that the leadership qualities that will enable management change in the UK agricultural industry.
Sarah works for Countrywide Farmers, the leading UK business in the supply of products and advice to the rural community. They employ more than 1000 staff and specialise in agriculture, energy and retail trading.
Cranfield Co-Launches New Government Affairs Research Club
Cranfield School of Management and The Open University Business School are joining forces and exploring the challenges organisations face when dealing with government affairs – all with the launch of a specialist research club.
The Government Affairs Research Club (GARC) will develop thought leadership around business-government affairs and provide an opportunity for those responsible for relationships with government to meet and discuss the challenges they face and how these can be overcome.
Professor Paul Baines and Dr. Tazeeb Rajwani from Cranfield will be co-directors of the new club, along with Dr. Howard Viney and Professor Thomas Lawton from The Open University Business School.

Cranfield Scholars Note Increase in Number of Women on FTSE Boards
With just over 12 months left to reach the 25% target set by the Government, the number of women on the FTSE 100 and 250 boards has reached 22.8% and 17.4% respectively, according to the latest progress report from Cranfield School of Management.
Since the Lord Davies report into women on boards was published in March 2011, great progress has been made with the percentage of women on the boards of the FTSE 100 companies increasing by 82% and by 124% on the FTSE 250.
Dr. Ruth Sealy, Visiting Fellow at Cranfield and Lecturer in Organisational Psychology at City University London, co-authored the report. She commented: “What is most encouraging is that, finally, we are seeing the percentage of female Executive Directors starting to rise, after having stagnated at 5-6% for many years. In the FTSE 100, 24 women now hold 8.4% of executive directorships.”
