Out@Anderson Hosts Coming Out Day Anniversary Panel – UCLA Anderson
On Thursday, October 11, 2018, the UCLA Anderson School of Management marked the 30th anniversary of National Coming Out Day with an event featuring a panel discussion by MBA students, who shared their experience of embracing their LGBTQ+ identities both on campus and beyond.
Out@Anderson hosted the event, which took the form of a Fireside Chat. The organization prides itself upon providing a forum for students, faculty, and staff to gather safely to address issues relevant to themselves and their allies.
Coming out stories served as the jumping off point of discussion among the panelists, and a wide range of topics followed. One student, Diana Perez (MBA ’20) spoke of her time on active duty in the Air Force. “Although there has been significant progress on LBTQ+ issues in recent history, [such as the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’] … there’s still work to be done in the fight for equality,” Perez says in a statement released prior to the event.
Another student, Andrew Waldman, (MBA ’20), spoke of the need for vigilance in fighting for equal rights despite the liberal environment of UCLA’s campus and the city of Los Angeles itself. Discussions of revealing one’s identity at work, engagement with allies, and the nuances of LGBTQ+ experiences rounded out the event.
Digital Transformation and the C-Suite – USC Marshall Business Class Podcast
USC Marshall School of Business Professor of Management and Organization Bob Zukis recently spoke on an episode of the school’s podcast about the need for technologists at the highest levels of business.
Noting such factors as the influence of social media upon the U.S. presidential election (and the administration itself), Zukis warned that the necessary regulations and controls of social technology have not yet caught up with the technologies to the degree that they can generate positive outcomes.
If companies are to engage in true digital transformation, Zukis says, C-Suite leaders must be experts in the field.
“Only 14 percent of boardroom directors have any technology training … and even if someone on the board asks the right questions, they have a very low probability of understanding the answers.”

$5 Million Given to Rowan’s Rohrer College of Business
On Wednesday, September 13, Rowan University President Dr. Ali Houshmand revealed that The William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation gifted $5 million to Rohrer College of Business.
Linda M. Rohrer, trustee of the William G. Rohrer Charitable Foundation and daughter of William Rohrer, felt this gift appropriately honored her father’s values. “My father had a passion for education and for helping fellow businesspeople succeed,” Rohrer said. “As we work to continue his legacy, this gift will ensure that the Rohrer College of Business remains competitive and can educate even more talented business students.”
Rohrer has already undergone considerable development recently, with the completion of Rowan University Business Hall in January, 2017 after three years of construction. For almost a year now, the 98,000-square foot, four-story building has served as home to the college of business. Moreover, 14 new faculty members have joined Rohrer in just the last few years.
This significant addition to the school, as well as the $5,000,000 will allow the university to provide resources that will draw in new talent. Including the newest contribution, the William G. Rohrer Foundation has committed $19,000,000 to Rowen in the past 25 years.

This gift is going to be channeled toward specialized scholarships and enterprises to improve recruitment and retention rates, efforts that should help the school increase its impact in the community.
According to Houshmand, “One of our primary responsibilities as a public research university is to help drive the economy of the region by developing a talented stream of future business leaders. This generous gift will help us stem the tide of students going out of state for business educations, many of whom do not return.”
Houshmand’s sentiment echoed that of Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney after Business Hall was Built. Sweeney said, “We want to grow the economy here. Rowan is the linchpin in economic development in South Jersey.”
Albers School of Business Receives $2.3 Million Donation
The Seattle University’s Albers School of Business and Economics recently received a $2.3 million donation, one of the largest gifts in the school’s history. The gift came from the estate of Mary Agnes and Raymond Guernsey, a local Seattle couple, and will be used to establish a new scholarship fund. Continue reading…
SDSU Raises $800 Million in University-Wide Fundraising Campaign
Ten years ago, San Diego State University launched a fundraising campaign to benefit the university’s students, faculty and staff. In 2007, that goal was just to raise $500 million. In 2014, the goal was increased by half to $750 million. Thanks to a successful fundraising year so far, The Campaign for SDSU has raised $800 million in its first-ever, university-wide fundraising campaign.
