Cass MBA Alumnus Shares Success Story
Alberto Lopez, Cass MBA alumnus, was recently welcomed back to the school as a speaker at the “Cass Entrepreneur Stories” event to share his story, according to a press release. Lopez is the founder and CEO of alva, a company that collects and analyzes media data to help predict trends for their clients. Lopez also has the distinction of being the first recipient of the Cass Entrepreneurship Fund, a £10 million venture fund that provides those who receive it with growth equity for their new companies.
Student Entrepreneurs Highlighted at 2015 Launch DePaul Awards
Six student ventures were featured at the 2015 Launch DePaul Awards on May 5th—a competition hosted by DePaul’s Coleman Entrepreneurship Center that gives DePaul students and recent alumni the chance to pitch their business proposals to professional investors and established entrepreneurs.
The contest featured separate divisions for undergraduates and graduate students. Each division had a first, second and third place prize of $4,000, $2,500 and $1,000 respectively. Nicole Susenburger, founder of HorsePilates, won first place in the graduate division along with her partners Luis Sanchez and Allie Kuopus.
“The best win out of all of this was the amazing friendship we three, Allie, Luis and I, built,” says Susenburger. “Knowing you can grow together, push through and go beyond and above, that’s one of the most amazing experiences I’m taking with me leaving graduate school.”
The second place award went to LingoStone, a software application that customizes the language-learning process. Peikang Hu, a DePaul graduate student and business owner, created the program with his partner, Yanquin Yang, an MBA student at the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. The app uses artificial intelligence to help users learn English by culling from the web reading material that matches their interests and level of language ability.

Team of McDonough MBAs Win Big at VCIC Finals
Georgetown McDonough MBAs Jordan Edelman, Eric Ellsworth, Amir Kabir, Ben Shopneck, and Coral Taylor took home the top prize at the global finals of the 2015 Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC), the school’s second title in the past three years. Seventy business schools from across the globe converged onto the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where a panel of venture capitalists judged each team based on how well they analyzed startup companies, interviewed entrepreneurs, structured a deal, and negotiated terms. McDonough Evening MBA Win Pitch Competition With Local Roots Farms
Daniel Kuenzi, an evening MBA student at Georgetown McDonough, recently won the pitch competition at Georgetown’s Evening of Social Innovation. One of 12 groups of Georgetown students who presented socially conscious business ideas at the event sponsored by the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Initiative, Kuenzi envisions a world where produce is fresh, affordable and accessible. REGISTER: Smith School’s 7th Social Enterprise Symposium
The Center for Social Value Creation at the Robert H. Smith School of Business will be presenting the 7th Social Enterprise Symposium (SES) on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The event is held at the Stamp Student Union, University of Maryland and in conjunction with the three-day AshokaU Exchange, which is an international convening on social entrepreneurship in higher education.
