BU Ranked No. 28 by Forbes
Forbes magazine has ranked Boston University no. 28 on its 2014 most entrepreneurial universities list. According to the magazine, BU is considered one of the top start-up schools in the United States.
Forbes based its ranking of the nation’s most entrepreneurial research universities on an “entrepreneurial ratio,” pitting the number of alumni and students who have identified themselves as founders and business owners on LinkedIn against the school’s total student body (undergraduate and graduate combined).
Cambridge Judge Launches Entrepreneurship Discussion Series
The role of government in nurturing entrepreneurship will be explored at three policy breakfasts in the Palace of Whitehall, hosted by the Industry and Parliament Trust at the House of Commons and supported by research from the University of Cambridge Judge Business School.
The first event, on July 14th at 8:30pm, will focus on ‘Red Tape Fatigue? The role of government in supporting & encouraging entrepreneurship’. The experiences of leading British entrepreneurs, the challenges faced by people wanting set up their own business and how entrepreneurs could be better supported by Government policy will be the subjects under debate. The forum will be facilitated by a senior decision maker within industry and parliament. A short speech from both the academic and industry practitioner will be followed by a roundtable-style discussion.
Northeastern Hosts IDEA Challenge
Hopeful entrepreneurs pitched their ideas to potential investors at Northeastern University’s IDEA challenge. The challenge was held Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at District Hall in Boston. The IDEA challenge is a student run venture held for students and alumni to help with start up businesses.
“Pitch- a- thon is a powerful showcase of all the hard work and effort our ventures put into their businesses,” said IDEA CEO Nick Naraghi, DMSB’15. “It’s exciting to watch them progress through IDEA’s stage gates and grow into investment-ready businesses.”
A variety of start-ups from industries ranging from tech to retail presented to potential investors, some of whom may soon help these businesses grow and achieve success. Several entrepreneurs discussed their innovative ideas to improve upon existing industries, like online trading, advertising and healthcare. Others, like Ryan Wright, E’09, see a market for a completely new type of product.
