San Diego State Breaks Ground on New Innovative Research Complex
San Diego State University (SDSU) broke ground on their new Engineering and Interdisciplinary Sciences Complex. The new building will focus on creating collaborative opportunities for engineers, biologists, climatologists, and entrepreneurs. BC Holds Inaugural Weekend Events for Shea Center for Entrepreneurship
The BC Carroll School of Management will be hosting the Shea Center for Entrepreneurship Inaugural Weekend on Nov. 5 to Nov. 7. During the weekend, the school will holds its dedication ceremony for the new Center on the Boston College campus. The Inaugural event will be held Nov. 5 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Robsham Theater.
During the event, there will also be a panel discussion on innovation and entrepreneurship. The keynote speaker for the event will be Phil Schiller, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple Inc. Schiller will also serve as a panelist along with Bijan Sabet a General Partner of Spark Capital and Niraj Shah, Co-Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Wayfair. Jere Doyle, Executive Director of the Shea Center will serve as the moderator.
Hofstra Launches New Center for Entrepreneurship
Hofstra University has launched its brand new Center for Entrepreneurship. The new center will be directed by Mark Lesko. Lesko, who will become the executive dean of the center, currently serves as the executive director of Accelerate Long Island, a group that brings research institutions together with local business communities to create new economic ventures. Lesko has also served as a federal prosecutor and the supervisor of the Town of Brookhaven.
As the executive dean of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Hofstra, Lesko will continue his work to connect Hofstra University with the local business community to fund startups, commercialize research and expand Hofstra’s entrepreneurial impact on the community. In order to expand Hofstra’s entrepreneurial reach, the school will also expand the entrepreneurship curriculum and will coordinate business plan competitions to help fund student startup ideas.
Babson Names Vice Provost of Global Entrepreneurial Leadership
Babson College has announced that Franklin W. Olin Professor in Entrepreneurship Dr. Candida G. Brush has been appointed the Vice Provost of Global Entrepreneurial Leadership. In her new role at the school, Dr. Brush will work to coordinate and connect all entrepreneurial aspects of Babson college and broaden the school’s reputation to advance economic and social value on a global scale.
In addition to serving as the F.W. Olin Professor in Entrepreneurship, Dr. Brush also serves as the Faculty Research Director of the Arthur M. Blank Center and has served as the Division Chair for Entrepreneurship for the past 10 years. Additionally, she has served on the development team for the new Masters of Science in Management and Entrepreneurial Leadership program at Babson and the Bertarelli Foundation Endowed Chair Task Force.
BC Launches Shea Center for Entrepreneurship
Boston College launched the Edmund H. Shea Jr. Center for Entrepreneurship on August 31. The center, named after the major donor and founder of California-based home building Shea Homes, will work to help integrate entrepreneurial thinking into the educational and formational experience of both undergraduate and graduate students throughout Boston College. BC will hold an official opening event for the center in November. The key note speaker for the opening event will be Philip Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, Inc. and BC alumnus.
Jere Doyle, a seasoned entrepreneur, will serve as the center’s inaugural executive director. Doyle has built two start-up companies, Prospectiv and Global Marketing, before founding Doyle Enterprises, a firm that supports start-ups throughout the world. The center, which is part of the Carroll School of Management at BC, will also take an interdisciplinary focus, and allow students in each of the University’s eight schools and colleges to participate in its programs.
Graziadio Announces Partnership with Dun & Bradstreet
Graziadio School of Business and Management and Dun & Bradstreet announced a new program called “Entrepreneurial Vision Partnership,” according to a press release from the school. The program aims to incorporate the strengths of both entities to promote an entrepreneurial approach that galvanizes the emerging business community.
