Graziadio School Professor Makes the Case for More Women on Corporate Boards
Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management (Graziadio School) Professor Bernice Ledbetter wrote recently about the benefits and necessities of placing more women on corporate boards.
Addressing the need for shifts in corporate culture, Ledbetter refers to the “massive” discrepancy between the number of women in the workforce and those serving on boards. Of Fortune 500 company board seats, only 19 percent are held by women. During 2014, women held just 16 percent of S&P 500 company board seats.
Berkeley Haas Teams With Grupo Argos to Increase Gender Diversity
The University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business (Berkeley-Haas) and the Berkeley Center for Executive Education (CCE) are partnering with Grupo Argos, a Latin American corporation that has made great strides recently in gender diversity.
The Columbian company, which specializes in energy systems, concrete production, and the real estate market, is the first in Latin America to elect a woman as chair of its board. Continue reading…
Cranfield Professor Publishes Findings on Promotion of Gender Equality
A professor at Cranfield University School of Management has compiled guidelines for men in middle management on how to foster gender equity in the workplace.
Professor Elisabeth Kelan, in a report entitled “Men, Middle Managers and Gender Inclusive Leadership,” chose explicitly to address the men—who make up 70 percent of middle managers—in her report. Though geared toward that specific audience, Kelan notes that the guidelines suggested by her research could also be used by current leaders in all levels of workplace structure to help foster gender equality.
Judge Kicks Off Women’s Leadership Initiative
Judge Business School began their Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI) on June 19 with an inaugural conference that focused on women’s empowerment and leadership issues, according to a press release from the school.
A number of speakers were present at the event so they could deliver their thoughts on some of the obstacles that women face in the business world. Brenda Trenowden, Global Chair of the 30% Club and Head of FIG Europe, proposed that the issue facing the advancement of women in business is less a matter of a “glass ceiling” than it is a “glass wall,” where men ride the escalator of promotion while women are left the trudge up the stairs, often causing them to grow discouraged. Henley Offers Scholarship to Women
Henley Business School has launched a scholarship with the collaboration of the 30% Club and the Financial Times aimed at offering women a fully-funded Henley MBA education, according to a recent press release. The scholarship is designed to give practical support to women interested in entering the business world, allowing students to complete their degrees on either a full time, executive or flex-executive schedule, allowing for women to continue working while they complete their degree. The scholarship should also help the 30% Club’s goal of seeing more women at every level of businesses and their boards. Continue reading…
Cranfield Professor Awarded CBE For Contributions To Gender Equality
Cranfield University School of Management’s Professor Susan Vinnicombe was honoured at Windsor Castle by Her Majesty the Queen for services to gender equality.
Professor Vinnicombe was presented with her CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) by Queen Elizabeth at a prestigious ceremony marking her significant contribution to increasing gender diversity on corporate boards over the past 15 years.
