Haas Faculty Selected for 2015 Distinguished Teaching Award
Five members of the UC Berkeley faculty have been selected as recipients of the 2015 Distinguished Teaching Award. This is the campus’s most prestigious honor for teaching. The recipients will be honored at a ceremony on April 21, in the Zellerbach Playhouse.The award recognizes teaching that incites intellectual curiosity in students, engages them thoroughly in the enterprise of learning and has a lifelong impact.
The Distinguished Teaching Award is was created to recognize individual faculty for performance of excellence in teaching. The recipients of the award incite intellectual curiosity in students, inspires departmental colleagues and makes students aware of significant relationship between the academy and the world at large. All members of the Academic Senate and non-Senate faculty/instructors with continuing appointments are eligible.
Haas Hosts EWMBA Online Info Session
The Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley will be hosting an online information session for its Evening and Weekend MBA program. The event will be held March 26 from noon to 1 p.m. The event can be accessed online. All that is needed to attend is an internet connection and headphones or speakers. Those interested in attending the online information session can complete a registration form online. More information on how to access the online information session will be provided during registration.
During the event, there will be a presentation by EWMBA Admissions staff followed by question and answer session for prospective students. Current students who live outside of the Bay Area will also be available to answer any questions about commuting to the program.
Scheller Hosts Semifinals for Social Venture Competition
Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business hosted the semifinal round– for the eastern U.S. region– of the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) on February 27.
The GSVC is an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs a chance for exposure, mentoring and $50,000 in prizes. It was founded in 1999 by MBA students at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. The competition is open to business schools all across the world. In 2014 the organization received 600 submissions from nearly 40 countries. This year, of the 21 teams that reached the semifinal round four were from Georgia Tech. Each year, GSVC culminates with the Global Finals and Conference at Berkeley in April where teams gather from around the world for a day of networking. Continue reading…
Final App Deadline for Haas PT MBA March 18
The final application deadline for the Evening and Weekend MBA program at the Haas School of Business is March 18. Prospective students who complete their application by this time will receive an admissions decision by May 29. The application form can be found and completed online. Other supporting documents required for a completed application include GMAT or GRE exam scores and two letters of recommendation. TOEFL or IELTS exam scores are also required for international applicants.
The online application must be submitted by 11:59pm on March 18. The other supporting documents may arrive after the deadline, although the admissions office will not be able to begin evaluating your application until it is complete and all materials have been received. Haas Prof Receives SAGE Young Scholars Award
Haas School of Business Marketing Professor Clayton Critcher has received the SAGE Young Scholars Award. The award is given to outstanding young researchers in personality and social psychology. Critcher focuses his research on how people navigate life as economic, political and oral beings and consumer behavior. He is one of five recipients of the award and will receive a one-time award of $5,000 to be used for research, study, or conference travel-related purposes.
The award is given by the Foundation for Personality and Social Psychology in Collaboration with SAGE Publications. FPSP is designed to provide support for wide-ranging, forward-looking, long-term activities that could enhance the discipline of personality and social psychology. It focuses on development and fundraising, seeking gifts and donations to fund activities that have the potential to augment and broaden the vigor of the field. SAGE Publications is a publisher of hundreds of academic journals and text books.
Haas Welcomes Andreessen Horowitz Managing Partner, Scott Kupor
The Haas School of Business has welcomed Scott Kupor, managing partner and chief operating officer at Andreessen Horowitz, as an executive-in-residence. Andreessen Horowitz is a venture capital firm that has invested in social media successes such as Twitter and Facebook. In his position as an executive-in-residence, Kupor teaches the spring Entrepreneurship class with Lecturer Carl Nichols.
Kupor joined Andreessen Horowitz at its founding in 2009 after serving two years as a vice president and general manager in HP’s software division. In his position at the firm, he manages investing activities, operations and post-investment services.
