SFSU College of Business to Host Women’s Emerging Leadership Forum

San Francisco State University College of Business will be hosting the Second Annual Women’s Emerging Leadership Forum, according to information found on the school’s website. The forum is designed for women who are interested in improving their leadership skills, exploring and learning about business negotiations, and expanding their network. It will be held on October 8 and 9 at SFSU’s downtown campus. LBS Sloan Fellows Visit California

54 Sloan Fellows from London Business School recently returned from a week-long journey to California known as ‘SloanFEST,’ according to a press release from the school. The Sloan Fellows program is a master’s degree in general management and leadership originally supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation at LBS, MIT Sloan School of Management, and Stanford Graduate School of Business. It is designed for people who have demonstrated success either as entrepreneurs or within organizations. Henley Finalist in Excellence in Practice Awards

Henley Business School was announced in conjunction with the Diwan of Royal Court of Oman as a finalist in the Executive Development category of the European Foundation for Management Development 2015 Excellence in Practice Awards (EiP), according to a press release from the school. The EiP awards recognize outstanding education and development partnerships in the realms of leadership, professional, talent, and organization development. Cass MBA Students Put Skills To Test at Sandhurst

Leaving the lecture hall for the grounds of the elite Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Cass MBA students got out of their comfort zones for an intensive leadership course as part of their Professional Development Week.

The Achieving Your Potential programme, delivered in partnership with Inspirational Development Group (IDG), helped students to build their knowledge and skills in effective partnership and leadership.

The three-day learning event was staged at the British Army’s world-renowned officer training headquarters, where cadets are introduced to key leadership principles such as creating clarity of purpose, building co-operation and maintenance of morale in challenging or ambiguous contexts.

New Research Into the Dangerous Side of Business Leadership

A new book from Ashridge Business School by co-authors Erik de Haan and Anthony Kasozi. explains what makes managers act out the dangerous, darker side of their leadership, and provides methods for identifying and challenging self-defeating behaviours to ensure that leadership shadows or ‘gremlins’ are disciplined.

Based on extensive research, The Leadership Shadow: How to Recognise and Avoid Derailment, Hubris and Overdrive draws on insights from psychiatry and psychotherapy to reveal how derailment occurs when managers’ strengths are overused, and how to avoid downfalls. Using examples drawn from executives’ experiences and descriptions of psychological behaviours based on well-established sources, such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) and the Hogan Personality Inventory model, the authors demonstrate how to find stability in the face of uncertainty, resilience in the face of gruelling demand, and psychological stability as a leader.
