Students Explore Asian Culture Through Unique Summer Program – Loyola Marymount University Newsroom
The Center for Asian Business at Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration celebrates the 10 year anniversary of its “Exploring Asian Culture” program this year. The course, which has served 142 students since its premier ten years ago, is held at LMU in the spring and includes a two-week immersion experience in cities throughout Asia.
This year, students traveled to Shanghai and Beijing in China and Seoul and Busan in South Korea. Throughout the two week trip, students had the opportunity to visit cultural sites, attend lectures, and visit with local companies.
“The program was designed to broaden students’ perspectives through global imagination, enhance cross-cultural understanding, and exemplify positive world views,” comments Dr. Marki Hackett, Assistant Director for the Center for Asian Business.
“Our goal is that the program promotes a deeper understanding and appreciation between Asians and Americans, as well as prepare students to work in the global market.”

New Faculty 2018 – USC Marshall Newsroom
The Marshall School of Business at USC has recently announced the addition of nine new and continuing teacher-scholars.
In the past two years, the university added more than 50 new faculty members to the business school, covering a wide range of departments including entrepreneurship, economics, and accounting. Marshall MBA alum Maria Colman, lecturer in the Department of Business Communication, and Feng Chen, Department of Data Sciences and Operations lecturer, are also among the nine new faculty members joining the school this year.
“We are excited about these faculty appointments, which build on our long tradition of fostering excellence in both research and teaching,” comments Marshall’s Vice Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs Nandini Rajagopalan.

A Career That Makes Memorable Experiences for Others: Incoming Director Ellen Kim Discusses Opportunities in Entertainment and Hospitality – Mihaylo Newsroom
Associate Professor of Management, Ellen Kim, has been named as the new Director of the Center for Entertainment and Hospitality Management (E&HM) at the Mihaylo College of Business at California State University, Fullerton. The Center aims to make students and graduates aware of the many opportunities in this growing field, especially in the Southern California area.
With Disneyland, Southern California has a unique position when it comes to careers in entertainment and hospitality. The E&HM Center is the only hospitality program at a university in Orange County, positioning Kim to play a defining role in the way the industry grows in the area.
“Our students major in business, taking courses in accounting, finance, marketing and operations that are very challenging, which makes them well-rounded,” Kim comments in the Mihaylo Newsroom.
“What makes our students stand out is that they have a strong business foundation, which Mihaylo College provides.”

Welcome New EMBA Director Joe O’Hannigan – Loyola Marymount Newsroom
The Loyola Marymount University College of Business Administration has recently named Joe O’Hannigan as the new associate dean and director for the school’s Executive MBA Program. With more than 30 years of experience in both higher education and international business, O’Hannigan will come to the College of Business Administration from Notre Dame, where he helped take the university’s Executive Education and EMBA programs to new heights.
“Our Executive MBA Program plays a valuable role in the community, bridging and strengthening both LMU and the business world with increasing recognition and impact,” O’Hannigan commented. “I can’t help smiling as I reacquaint myself with this wonderful institution; it’s this proud alum’s dream come true.”

Entrepreneur and Scholar to be Honored by University – USC Marshall Newsroom
Kathleen Allen, Professor Emerita of Clinical Entrepreneurship at the Marshall School of Business at USC is the newest recipient of one of the University’s highest honors—the 2018 Faculty Lifetime Achievement Award. A Ph.D. graduate from USC Marshall, Allen served as the university’s professor of clinical entrepreneurship at the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies for 26 years before retiring in 2016. She is the author of a number of best-selling textbooks about entrepreneurship, including “Launching New Ventures,” which has been published in six languages and sold around the world. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Allen at the Academic Honors Convocation Ceremony in April.

UC Irvine Merage in FT Global MBA Ranking 2018 – Financial Times
The Financial Times has recognized the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California, Irvine as a stand out in their latest ranking of the best MBA programs in the world. According to data from the publication, the Merage School is the first business school in 20 years of FT’s rankings to have a majority (52 percent) of female faculty. This is significantly higher than the average rate of 28 percent for other ranked schools. The Merage MBA program has remained consistently ranked since the first listing in 1999, and since then has witnessed a steady growth of female faculty each year.

LMU MBA Students Nab Second Place in Business Ethics Competition
A team of MBA students from Loyola Marymount University won second place honors at the International Business Ethics Case Competition (IBECC). The competition was held from April 19-21 at the JW Marriott Santa Monica Le Merigot. Thirty-five teams from five countries had the opportunity to present with the LMU students coming out near the top.
LMU Recycles 73.9 Lbs of Waste Per Student
Loyola Marymount University has won the 2015 RecycleMania Competition’s Per Capita Classic (total pounds of recyclables per person.) LMU recycled 73.9 pounds per student during the competition. During the competition, participating schools recycled or composted 80.1 million pounds of recyclables and organic materials, according to results from the annual program. This year, 394 schools with a total of 4.5 million students, in 49 states and Canada participated in the program.
Overall, Washington’s Antioch University Seattle won the contest, with just 4 percent of the waste generated on campus ending up in the trash, and the other 96 percent being composted or recycled. Recyclemania is annual competition that ranks schools by how much recycling, garbage and food waste they collect in two months. This year, the 3R Actions Challenge was added to the program. The 3R Actions Challenge encourages students to not only to reduce, reuse and recycle but to also share those actions via text, Twitter or a mobile app.
LMU Revises MBA Program
Loyola Marymount University will introduce a significantly revised curriculum for its MBA program beginning the Fall 2015. The new revised curriculum will allow students to complete the MBA program in only 24 months rather than giving students a maximum 5-year deadline to complete the program. Students currently enrolled in the program will continue with the old curriculum, while new incoming students for the Fall 2015 will begin this new 24 month program.
The redesign for the program will feature a two-calendar-year program that will be split into two sections. During the first year, classes will be structured as a cohort and will take all core classes together. During the second year, students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of courses to complete electives and choose an area of emphasis.
LMU Holds Beta Gamma Sigma Induction Ceremony
The College of Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University held its annual Beta Gamma Sigma induction ceremony. The ceremony was held on March 22. Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society for member schools of AACSB. Graduate students need to be in the top 20 percent of their class to be inducted into the society.
Out of the 49 students inducted into the 2015 class of Beta Gamma Sigma, five of those were MBA students and three were Executive MBA students at LMU. Two LMU professors, LMU Finance Professor Don DePamphilis and organizational design and development expert Patricia Palleschi, were also recognize with honorary faculty memberships to BGS at the ceremony.
