LMU Pres. to Step Down at End of School Year

Loyola Marymount University President David W. Burcham has announced that he will step down at the end of the current school year. A search committee headed by David Zuercher, a 1968 graduate of LMU and member of the Board of Trustees, is expected to find Burcham’s replacement by May 2015.

Burcham became the university’s 15th president in October 2010, after serving as provost, executive vice president, dean of Loyola Law School and a professor of constitutional law. He will have spent 24 years at the university when he leaves office on May 31, 2015.

LMU Ranked by US News & World Report

Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration maintained a strong presence in U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of “Best Colleges.” The college was ranked among the top 25 percent of all undergraduate business programs in the nation.

The College of Business Administration has landed in the no. 93 spot. This year’s ranking is a slight improvement from last year’s ranking of no. 101. The accounting program was ranked no. 31, while the marketing program came in at no. 26 in the nation.

The entrepreneurship program entered the rankings at no. 23. The program was tied with Carnegie Mellon and John Carroll University. Overall, Loyola Marymount University kept its no. 3 ranking among best regional universities in the west. This ranking was tied with Gonzaga University in Washington.

LMU Names Director of the M-School

Ad industry veteran Matt Stefl has joined Loyola Marymount University’s College of Business Administration as clinical professor and director of the M-School. The M-School is a cutting-edge undergraduate program designed to cultivate advertising and marketing professionals for today’s digital business environment.

The M-School bridges the gap between academia and industry and gives students real-world advertising and branding experience through offsite visits and interactions with industry professionals. Innovative courses are co-taught by faculty and industry pros and cover new product development, branding, strategy, social media, content creation, coding, and analytics, among others. LMU Chair Selected as Grosch Prof

Loyola Marymount University Accounting Department Chair Mahmoud Nourayi has been selected to serve as the next Grosch Professor for a three-year term beginning this fall. The Grosch Professorship is named after Paul Grosch, who was an accounting professor at LMU for 32 years.

Professor Grosch’s vision for educating competitive and ethical accounting professionals is still at the core of the LMU Accounting Program. Distinguished faculty who hold the Grosch Professorship perpetuate this legacy and ensure that the Department of Accounting sustains its tradition of excellence in accounting education.

“Commitment to academic excellence, individual integrity, and good professional judgment are Professor Grosch’s legacy and I am grateful to be selected as holder of the professorship in his name,” said Mahmoud.
