Cranfield Professor Publishes Findings on Promotion of Gender Equality
A professor at Cranfield University School of Management has compiled guidelines for men in middle management on how to foster gender equity in the workplace.
Professor Elisabeth Kelan, in a report entitled “Men, Middle Managers and Gender Inclusive Leadership,” chose explicitly to address the men—who make up 70 percent of middle managers—in her report. Though geared toward that specific audience, Kelan notes that the guidelines suggested by her research could also be used by current leaders in all levels of workplace structure to help foster gender equality.
Stillman Launches New MBA Capstone Course
The Stillman School of Business has launched a brand new capstone course for its MBA students. The course, Integrative Experience II: Business Consulting (BMBA 9210), will give students an intense insight into the world of consulting and strategy. Students will take all of the skills and knowledge that they have learned across their time in the MBA program at Stillman and directly apply it to real-world consulting project.
For the course, students will work with their client for 10 weeks. The client for this semester’s students is th Reheroed, a start-up company that makes products with a what the company calls a “heroic past”. The company creates products from used equipment from organizations like the FDNY. The company has already had success selling products for the FDNY made from used fire hoses. There will be three student teams that will all work to learn about their client, create a market strategy and help to drive the company’s future growth.
Do MBA Program Rankings Matter?
When attending any graduate or undergraduate program, school rankings tend to carry a lot of weight and have a recognizable impact on future opportunities. For example, attending an elite university such as Harvard will typically provide students with far more job opportunities, higher starting salaries, and a greater possibility of future success compared to a less well-known institution. But does the same hold true for MBA programs, particularly when many MBA applicants have very specific goals and needs?
Business School Faculty and Staff Honored at DePaul Convocation
A recent article by Robin Florzak highlights the achievements of eight DePaul University staff members who were recognized at the university’s Academic Convocation ceremony for their teaching, public service and dedication to business students.
“It is a noble calling that we undertake in higher education,” DePaul Provost Marten denBoer said to kick off the convocation. “Many students come here seeking a pathway to a job, but we give them much more than that. ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: George Mason’s John Cotton Earns Executive MBA After Military Service
An article on George Mason University School of Business’ website profiled recent EMBA recipient John Cotton. The retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral and third generation military pilot earned his Executive MBA from Mason in 2015, winning the Executive MBA Outstanding Student Award in the process.
Cotton told The School of Business that he “simply never had time to get an MBA degree.” He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1973, going onto serve in the Navy in various positions and roles. Continue reading…
Johns Hopkins Pres. Daniels Presented with Exceptional Leadership Award and $500K Grant
According to Johns Hopkins news blog The Hub, JHU President Ronald Daniels has been named one of the Carnegie Corporation’s Academic Leadership Award winners. As part of the award, a $500,000 grant will be given to the university.
“I am deeply honored to be recognized among the esteemed recipients of this award,” Daniels said. “It is exciting to have the innovative work by our faculty and staff and Johns Hopkins’ commitment to Baltimore recognized by the Carnegie Corporation, a great champion of higher education.” Continue reading…
