Application Requirements for MBA@UNC Online MBA 2021
UNC Kenan-Flagler seeks students whose academic background, professional experience and leadership abilities meet the rigorous demands of our top-ranked program—regardless of the format they choose. MBA@UNC look for candidates with strong professional and academic backgrounds who can thrive in our collaborative, team-based environment.
The MBA@UNC requires applicants to have a minimum of two years professional work experience.
Students must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university. International candidates must have a college-level education equivalent to an American undergraduate or baccalaureate degree (the same as a first university degree). Generally this is a 4-year degree.
There are a number of universities around the world that offer 3-year undergraduate programs. If you received a bachelor’s degree upon completion of one of these 3-year undergraduate programs, you are eligible to apply to our program.
MBA@UNC’s testing requirement is based on the applicant’s number of years of professional full-time work experience as a general policy. However, the Admissions Committee will consider online student GMAT waiver requests on a case-by-case basis.
Please note that no GMAT/GRE waiver is automatic and an approved waiver request does not guarantee admission to the program.
The MBA@UNC school code for the GMAT is D40.HL.07. The code for the GRE is 0024. TOEFL External link , IELTS External link or PTE Academic External link is required for applicants for whom English is not the native language. Our school code for these tests is 5816. You do not need to submit a TOEFL, IELTS or PTE score if:
- You earned an undergraduate or graduate degree at a U.S. college or university
- You total education was conducted in English in a native English-speaking country
- You earned an undergraduate degree or graduate degree from India. We will request test scores from some Indian candidates as needed

3 More Online MBA Scholarships You Should Know
The Lehigh University College of Business and Economics FLEX MBA gives students the opportunity to participate in classes either online or on campus. The nationally-ranked program emphasizes values like leadership, social responsibility, and understanding global business. FLEX MBA students who have received an offer of admission as a regular students may be considered for a variety of scholarship options. For example, the Dean’s Scholarship may be awarded based on academic merit, and the Nanovic ‘60G Endowed Fellowship Fund will go to students who show outstanding performance within the FLEX MBA Program and “contribution to the program outside of the classroom.”
Dayton University’s MBA@Dayton offers tracks based on applicants’ academic and/or professional experience. Students can pursue the Foundational Online MBA, the Accelerated Online MBA, or the One-Year Online MBA, depending on their experience and goals. According to the school, applicants will be considered for “select competitive awards offered by the MBA@Dayton program or can identify private independent scholarships for which they can apply separate of the application or the federal aid process.”
The Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business has multiple scholarship opportunities in its Online MBA program. Enrolled students can apply for merit-based scholarships, including “a $1,000 Online MBA Referral Scholarship, and a $500 Online MBA GMAT Test Bonus for those who submit GMAT scores with an application.” In addition, Certificate of Advanced Accounting Proficiency (CAAP) program grads can apply for a $3,000 Online MBA scholarship.

The Online MBA at Fox offers total flexibility for students, with the opportunity to complete the degree within anywhere from 20 months to six years. The Online MBA at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, better known as the MBA@UNC, may take students anywhere from 18 to 36 months to complete and include nine core courses in foundational business fields, such as economics, introductory finance, business strategy, operations management, and more. Students may also choose from over 30 electives to focus their degree in a particular concentration such as entrepreneurship or management consulting.
The MBA@UNC also requires students to complete two in-person immersions, which may be completed domestically or—for students interested in global business—internationally. Through the Student Teams Achieving Results (STAR) and Doing Business In (DBI) program, students also have the chance to study abroad at an MBA exchange partner school.
The MBA@UNC stands out thanks to its many post-graduate resources thanks to the Career & Leadership team. Replacing traditional on-campus recruiting, a Virtual Company Information Sessions allow executives from a variety of industries throughout the country to communicate with students about the hiring needs of their companies. Alumni can access these resources at any point after their graduation and can also take additional MBA courses as needed for their career development.
Tepper School of Business — Carnegie Mellon University
Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business offers students a flexible online degree that is completed through a combination of online and on-site experiences throughout a 32 month period. Each week, students will have access to a 70-minute online course that allows them to virtually interact in real time. Throughout the year, they will also be required to attend six “Access Weekends,” held at the university’s various locations throughout the country. The Tepper Online MBA may be the program that provides the most opportunities for in-person contact with classmates and faculty, so students that are interested in more face time as part of their online program may be particularly interested in this degree.
Tepper students are provided with in-depth career coaching and recruitment opportunities. Students will also visit a number of major companies in the country, such as Google, Amazon, JP Morgan, and Microsoft. Within just three months of graduation, roughly 91 percent of students in the Tepper Online MBA program were offered a full-time role.
W.P. Carey School of Business — Arizona State University
The Arizona State University’s Carey School of Business online MBA degree is structured around just one course at a time, each five weeks long. Students are immersed in an inclusive online environment that allows them to interact with classmates through case-based projects.
Carey, in comparison to several other schools noted on this list, is also unique in its option of pursuing a concurrent online degree, such as a Master of Legal Studies, MSE in Electrical Engineering, or MS in Industrial Engineering.
