Smeal Welcomes Exec. VP of Dick’s Sporting Goods
The Penn State Smeal College of Business will welcome Executive Vice Prsedeint, COO/CFO of Dick’s Sporting Goods, André J. Hawaux to campus on April 10. Hawaii will speak as part of the Executive Insights program at Smeal. The event will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. at the Struthers Auditorium, Room 110 of the Business Building at the Penn State campus.
During the event, Hawaux will take part in a moderated discussion with Charles H. Whiteman, John and Becky Surma Dean of Smeal. Those interested in attending the event can complete a registration form online.
Smeal Names New Members to Board of Visitors
The Penn State Smeal College of Business has named four new members to its Board of Visitors. All four new members are alumni of the Smeal College of Business. The Smeal Board of Visitors was founded in 1989 to provide advice and counsel to the dean and other Smeal administrators

Smeal Exec. MBA Hosts Senior Leadership Forum
The Penn State Smeal Executive MBA Program hosted its inaugural Senior Leadership Forum, an opportunity for current and prospective students as well as program alumni to come together to discuss business and leadership, in June, 2014. In addition to panel discussions on the future for strategy, moderated by Al Vicere, professor of strategic leadership at Smeal; and the future for leadership, moderated by EMBA Program alumnus Tim Quigley ‘04, assistant professor at the University of Georgia, the forum also featured a panel discussion on health care. ACG Philadelphia Announces Winners of the 8th Annual Cup Competition
ACG Philadelphia presented the 8th annual Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Cup competition, sponsored by KPMG LLP on April 17, 2014. The Philadelphia Cup, which is open exclusively to MBA and MS Finance students attending top area universities, is a highly realistic private equity/investment banking case study competition that requires a combination of corporate strategy, finance and valuation skills. A total of $25,000 was awarded to to eight local MBA teams and every student who participated took home prize money and invaluable real world experience.
Teams from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Business School, Saint Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business, Villanova University’s School of Business, LaSalle University, Penn State University’s Smeal College of Business, Temple University’s Fox School of Business, LeBow College of Business – Drexel University and the University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business all competed as finalists in the 2014 ACG Cup. The finalist teams were selected from Round One competitions that were held on-campus at each school. Each team analyzed and presented their solutions and recommendations to a complex business case in order to advance to the “ACG Philadelphia Cup” Finals. Continue reading…
