SJU Hosts Cameroon Delegation
A delegation from Cameroon arrived in Philadelphia Sunday, July 13. The delegation came from halfway around the world to participate in an executive education study tour sponsored by Saint Joseph’s University (SJU). The students will earn an advanced education certificate and have the option to further their education at SJU by earning a master’s of business administration for their participation.
The 24-person cohort, which includes aspiring lawyers, government officials, health administrators and economists attending Cameroon’s National School of Administration and Magistracy, has three objectives for their visit to Philadelphia.
LeBow Offers GMAT Prep Course
LeBow College of Business is offering a six-week GMAT prep course at its University City campus in Philadelphia. The GMAT Prep course consists of six classes, reviewing the math and verbal materials in the GMAT as well as test-taking skills, strategies, hints and shortcuts on how to answer the questions.
The cost for the course is $800. The course fee includes a GMAT prep review book and materials. A $50 discount will be given to anyone who submits an application for admission to LeBow before course starts.
Applicants can complete a free online application for admission to LeBow online. Resume, Essay, References and Transcripts can be submitted at a later date. After applying, enter the coupon code for the GMAT prep course to receive the discount. Course participants can also receive a $700 credit towards tuition if he or she scores above 570 and gets accepted to a LeBow program.
The course will meet from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. every Wednesday for six weeks starting July 9, 2014. Full payment for the course is due by 12:00 p.m. July 8, 2014.
LeBow Students Conduct Market Research for Cherry Blossom Festival
For the fifth year in a row, the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia asked a group of LeBow College of Business MBA students to conduct market research for the annual Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival. Each spring Philadelphia becomes a town of festivals celebrating everything from arts and music to food and drink. The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival is a celebration of the coming of spring and Japanese food and culture with 12 days of events all over the city and the suburbs.
Aaron Dilliplane, assistant director of the Japan America Society, says the LeBow students’ suggestions have been helpful in making sure that the organization is doing all that it can to make the festival enjoyable for its audience. Continue reading…
Smeal Professor Selected to Receive American Marketing Association Award
Penn State Smeal College of Business’ Wayne S. DeSarbo, distinguished professor and Smeal Chair in Marketing, has been selected to receive the American Marketing Association’s Charles Coolidge Parlin Marketing Research Award for 2014.
The Parlin Award recognizes academics and practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and sustained an impact on advancing the profession of marketing research over an extended period of time.
Professor DeSarbo will receive his award at the 2014 AMA Advanced Research Techniques Forum at the end of June in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Continue reading…
Fox School of Business Names Lenfest Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Dr Mitrabarun “MB” Sarkar, Professor in the Department of Strategic Management and founding Academic Director of the Global Immersion Program at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, has been named the H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest Professorship in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Dr. Sarkar has been a member of the school’s faculty since 2008, and his appointment to the Lenfest Professorship began Jan. 1, 2014.
This distinguished professorship is named in honor of H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest, the well-known media entrepreneur and philanthropist. In 2006, he received the Musser Award for Excellence in Leadership from the Fox School, its highest honor. Lenfest is a trustee of Temple University.
“We are indebted to Gerry for his invaluable contributions to Temple University over many years,” said M. Moshe Porat, Dean of the Fox School of Business. “We are especially grateful to Gerry for his generosity in making it possible to create this endowed professorship in entrepreneurship and innovation, which are two of the most important pillars of our strategy as we transition into creating a world-class research, teaching and service institution in Philadelphia.”
Sarkar is a renowned scholar and a highly decorated professor. In 2013, he received the Great Teacher Award, which is Temple University’s highest honor. He has also received the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from the Fox Professional MBA Program in 2009, 2011 and 2013; from the Fox Online MBA Program in 2011 and 2013; and from the Fox Executive MBA Program in 2012 and 2014.
