Smith Alum to Run For President

Move over Hillary—Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina has announced her bid to become the first woman president of the United States. Fiorina also happens to be an MBA graduate (class of ‘80) of the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

As an alum, Fiorina has remained active in the Smith community. According to a press release on the Smith website, she donated $100,000 to the Smith School’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship in 2007 and has remained engaged at the university. Continue reading…

EY’s Manoff and Smith School Dean Triantis Set to Speak at Commencement May 21st

It’s that time of the year again: Join the Robert H. Smith School of Business, it’s factually and future alumni on May 21, 2015 to celebrate the accomplishments of new graduates. The ceremonies for grad school students will take place in The Xfinity Center at the University of Maryland’s College Park campus at 5:30PM.

Smith School Hosts New Emerging Markets Competition For MBAs

A team of MBAs from the Robert H. Smith School of Business won a $2,000 first place prize at the school’s inaugural Emerging Markets Forum Case Competition at Smith’s DC campus, according to an article by Andrew Kneale on the business school’s website.

Overall, teams from top MBA programs across the country competed to provide the best set of recommendations to the Global Alliance for the Improvement of Nutrition (GAIN).The event was a collaborative effort between Smith’s Center for International Business Education Research (CIBER), the MBA Emerging Markets Association and Smith’s MBA Net Impact chapter, expanding the activity of the university’s annual Emerging Markets Forum. Smith MBAs Consult Projects in the Middle East

Three Smith School of Business MBA students, Patrick Gallice, Carlos Cedeno, and Hirokazu Masuoka, were selected to join a consulting team that traveled to the Middle East over Spring Break, 2015. They studied the feasibility of using greywater for small-scale crop production, assisted in finding solutions to water scarcity in the region, and worked to solve a complex environmental problem that implicates legal, public health, and economic issues.

Smith School of Business’ fourth Women Leading Women conference. The event, moderated by Vice Dean Joyce E. A. Russell and presented by Smith’s Office of Alumni Relations, celebrated inspirational female trailblazers in the business world.
