Rutgers Honors Local Businesses and Awards Entrepreneurship
Rutgers Business School held its second annual awards ceremony on November 18, 2015 in commemoration of Global Entrepreneurship Week. The Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CUEED) and Rutgers’ programs for urban entrepreneurship and economic development-work to promote the development of sustainable business in New Jersey, New York and other area cities.
Rutgers Partners with University of Notre Dame for New Digital Marketing Program
The Rutgers Business School has partnered with the University of Notre Dame Mendoza Stayer Center for Executive Education to offer students a brand new certificate program. The new Digital Marketing Certificate Program will be an accelerated program offered at the Notre Dame University in Chicago. The program will be held Sept. 28 to Oct. 2, 2015. The program was designed for working professional in marketing related fields and IT professionals looking to expand their career options in to marketing positions, as well as professionals who are in charge of social media development and planning in various organizations.
The program’s curriculum will cover the knowledge and skills necessary for professionals to build a digital marketing strategy as well as how organizations can personalize the digital component of online customer relations process. Program participants will also learn the benefits of developing a successful digital marketing strategy for their organization.
Rutgers Business Summer Camp Grows in Popularity
The Rutgers Business School- Newark and New Brunswick offers high school students the opportunity to experience college life, and business curriculum first hand. The program, which was started in 2014, has grown from 18 campers in attendance for the first year to 28 campers this year. The time frame for the program was also increased this year from five days to seven days.
The Business Summer Camp program at Rutgers was designed to provide high school juniors and seniors to learn business basics through experiential learning, business plan competitions and visits to major business locations near the campus. Campers also focus on the skills that are needed to succeed in life through team work, public speaking and interacting with other people.
Rutgers Names Business School Professor as Provost
Rutgers University- Newark has selected Rutgers Business School Professor Jerome Williams as the next provost of University in Newark. Williams will begin his new position on Sept. 1, 2015. Williams has been with the Rutgers Business School since 2010. He has served as the Prudential Chair in Business, director of the PhD program and has also overseen research at The Center for Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.
As provost, Williams will represent Rutgers-Newark on the Rutgers system Promotion Review Committee. He will also work with university leaders to solidify support of a wide range of scholarly pursuits and collaborations. Williams will also help to build a high impact research program for Rutgers-Newark and to help the school to work with other Rutgers-Newark leadership team members to grow institutional partnerships and initiatives.
Rutgers Center for Real Estate Selects Advisory Board Members
The Center for Real Estate at the Rutgers Business School has gathered top real estate professionals to serve as the “Founding Members” of its professional Advisory Board. Advisory Board members will serve as a channel of information for the Center and will help to promote productive discussion among students, industry peers and government.
The members of the Advisory Board will also have the opportunity to teach a class for students at the Center for Real Estate by acting as an adjunct professor or guest lecturer. Members will also be able to participate in Center-run conferences and guest speaker series and become a mentor for a student. As a student’s mentor, members will attend career days and provide internship opportunities for students.
Entrepreneurship MBA Grows in Popularity
Entrepreneurship has become an increasingly popular concentration among MBA students who are interested in starting their own businesses as well as those who are hoping to develop innovative business ideas. According to The Independent, “in the past big employers might have been reluctant to hire MBA graduates with significant entrepreneurship coursework for fear that the new recruits would use the job to learn the ropes before leaving to start ventures of their own, today’s large firms are increasingly recognising that innovation and entrepreneurial skills are vital to enable them to compete.”
TopMBA.com explains that completing an MBA in Entrepreneurship has been a controversial decision. “For some, the degree will be a huge help in building a professional network, seeking venture capital and building a successful startup. It also affords you a rare chance to fail in a safe environment, whereas a failed venture outside of a business school environment can be devastating.”
