Stillman Launches New MBA Capstone Course

The Stillman School of Business has launched a brand new capstone course for its MBA students. The course, Integrative Experience II: Business Consulting (BMBA 9210), will give students an intense insight into the world of consulting and strategy. Students will take all of the skills and knowledge that they have learned across their time in the MBA program at Stillman and directly apply it to real-world consulting project.

For the course, students will work with their client for 10 weeks. The client for this semester’s students is th Reheroed, a start-up company that makes products with a what the company calls a “heroic past”. The company creates products from used equipment from organizations like the FDNY. The company has already had success selling products for the FDNY made from used fire hoses.  There will be three student teams that will all work to learn about their client, create a market strategy and help to drive the company’s future growth.

Stillman Center for Entrepreneurial Studies Director Shares Advice for New Entrepreneurs

Susan Scherreik, the director of the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Stillman School of Business was recently featured in an article by NerdWallet. NerdWallet is a financial publication that is focused on helping people to develop the knowledge and skills needed to be successful and educated on financial matters. The article discussed the most common mistakes that new entrepreneurs make and how people can avoid making the same, or similar mistakes.

Scherreik discussed the mistake that new entrepreneurs make when they are too caught up in the idea of what their startup could be. She explains in the article that when people get too “carried away with the idea, the new entrepreneur overlooks how and when he or she can actually execute this idea and turn a profit.” She also explains to readers that “unless the idea can make money, you don’t have a business, just a money pit.”

Stillman Leadership Center Named Top Program

Leadership Excellence Magazine (part of HR.com) has named The Gerald P. Buccino ’63 Center for Leadership Development at the Stillman School of Business the top program nationally among educational institutions. The award recognizes the world’s top leadership practitioners and programs. The announcement of the 2015 Leadership 500 Excellence Awards was made at the LEAD2015 forum in Dallas, Texas.

This year’s recipients were selected based on either an application or nomination, reviewed by HR.com‘s expert leadership panel, as well as feedback from the program’s participants. Hundreds of programs nationwide, including Ivy League institutions, apply for the awards each year.
