Fox Announces New Exec. Director of IEI
The Fox School of Business at Temple University has announced the appointment of Ellen Weber as Assistant Professor and Executive Director of The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) is Temple University’s gateway to the entrepreneurial world.
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) proactively promotes entrepreneurial spirit throughout all 17 schools and colleges of Temple University. The IEI’s highly skilled staff and faculty provide consulting services to project groups and new ventures while developing. The IEI offers many years of experience in business development and consulting, a wide variety of skills, extensive networks and boundless enthusiasm for new ventures and experiential learning.
Fox Dept. of MIS Named Major National Player
The Fox School of Business’s Department of Management Information Systems at Temple University was named “a major national player.” The report was made by a review team that systematically evaluated the department.
The review team included internationally recognized professors from Oklahoma State University and The University of Texas at Austin. The reviewers were selected by Temple University’s Office of the Provost based upon their stature in the MIS discipline.
According to the team which submitted a report after evaluating a self-study document and following a two-day site visit: “The MIS department at Temple is one of the best examples of how good leadership and investment can create a stellar program in such a short time.”
Fox Student Receives Best Paper Award
A research paper authored by a current PhD student Pauline Milwood at Temple University’s Fox School of Business has received the Best Paper Award at the second biennial Advances in Destination management Conference. Her is paper titiled, “Knowledge, Innovation and the Role of the Destination Management Organization: Integrating Stakeholder and Network Perspectives.”
Milwood was honored at the conference, which took place June 11-13, 2014 in St. Gallen, Switzerland. She co-authored the paper with her advisor, Dr. Wesley S. Roehl, a professor from Temple’s School of Tourism and Hospitality Management.
“It felt extremely gratifying (to be recognized),” Milwood said. “The PhD program is extremely grueling. It kind of makes the thorns and challenges that develop in the process of doing research all worth it in the end.”
Fox School of Business Offers 24 in 24 Program
Temple University’s Fox School of Business’s program “24 in 24” gives applicants an edge on admission. If an applicant applies from now until July 24, 2014, an admissions decision will be delivered to him or her in 24 hours.
“We don’t want the thought of applying to be cumbersome,” said Phyllis Tutora, Director of Graduate Admissions at Fox. “Summer is a time for people to be enjoying themselves. This program gives individuals a quick decision so that they can get on to enjoying the summer.”
The “24 in 24” program is for both Part-Time and Full-Time MBA students. The requirements for the application program are to have the required standardized testing scores, a completed application, university transcripts, one letter of recommendation and one essay. Over 100 Fox Faculty to be Recognized by Temple University with Merit Awards
The Provost of Temple University, Hai-Lung Dai, recently announced that 767 faculty at Temple will receive merit awards, with one hundred and eight of those recognized coming from the Fox School of Business.
“A merit award reflects our faculty’s continued dedication and commitment to scholarship and students, and highlights the exceptional drive for excellence in teaching, innovation and performance,” Provost Dai said. Continue reading…
Fox School of Business Names Lenfest Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Dr Mitrabarun “MB” Sarkar, Professor in the Department of Strategic Management and founding Academic Director of the Global Immersion Program at Temple University’s Fox School of Business, has been named the H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest Professorship in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Dr. Sarkar has been a member of the school’s faculty since 2008, and his appointment to the Lenfest Professorship began Jan. 1, 2014.
This distinguished professorship is named in honor of H.F. “Gerry” Lenfest, the well-known media entrepreneur and philanthropist. In 2006, he received the Musser Award for Excellence in Leadership from the Fox School, its highest honor. Lenfest is a trustee of Temple University.
“We are indebted to Gerry for his invaluable contributions to Temple University over many years,” said M. Moshe Porat, Dean of the Fox School of Business. “We are especially grateful to Gerry for his generosity in making it possible to create this endowed professorship in entrepreneurship and innovation, which are two of the most important pillars of our strategy as we transition into creating a world-class research, teaching and service institution in Philadelphia.”
Sarkar is a renowned scholar and a highly decorated professor. In 2013, he received the Great Teacher Award, which is Temple University’s highest honor. He has also received the Outstanding Professor of the Year Award from the Fox Professional MBA Program in 2009, 2011 and 2013; from the Fox Online MBA Program in 2011 and 2013; and from the Fox Executive MBA Program in 2012 and 2014.
