Anderson Welcomes Gerald Loeb Award Winners

Judy D. Olian, dean of UCLA Anderson School of Management and chairman of the G. and R. Loeb Foundation, welcomed Loeb Awards honorees and their guests on June 26, 2014. Mandy Drury, co-anchor of CNBC’s “Street Signs,” served as master of ceremonies.

The Gerald Loeb Awards are among the highest honors in journalism, recognizing the work of journalists whose contributions illuminate the world of business, finance and the economy for readers and viewers worldwide.

The Forté Women’s MBA Conference returned to the UCLA Anderson campus on Friday June 20, 2014. The conference is put on by the Forté Foundation, a nonprofit consortium of leading companies and top business schools working together to launch women into careers through access to business education, opportunities and a network of their peers.

Anderson Faculty Awards Presented

UCLA Anderson School of Management Dean Judy Olian and Faculty Chairman Randolph Bucklin presented the annual faculty awards on June 3, 2014. The annual faculty awards honor excellence in teaching, research, leadership and mentorship. Three faculty members will receive teaching awards, selected by the Teaching Improvement Committee.

Anderson Applications Increase By 32 Percent

UCLA’s Anderson School of Management revealed that applications to the school’s full-time MBA program rose by 32 percent for the 2013-2014 admissions cycle.

The unusual increase, in a year when application volume at many schools either flat or slightly down, means that MBA applications at Anderson have raised by more than 60 percent in the past four years. The latest increase follows a seven percent decline in the year-earlier after a 22 percent gain the prior year.

The school attributes the increase to a variety of factors. Some of which include a reduction of the number of essays and letters of recommendation required to apply as well as increased recruiting efforts that have led to deeper engagement by applicants. Continue reading…

Anderson Professor Mark Garmaise Appointed Dean

University of California at Los Angeles Anderson School of Management Professor of Finance Mark Garmaise has been named as the dean of the Full-time MBA program. Garmaise will begin in his position as dean on July 1, 2014. Anderson’s Dean Judy Olian made the announcement.

“In Mark, we have a combination of remarkable talents, an outstanding teacher who is dedicated to his MBA students, and a trailblazing scholar who infuses his teaching with relevant and emerging research findings,” said Olian.

Professor Garmaise graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with an AB in Mathematics and Philosophy. He received his Ph.D. in Finance from Stanford GSB in 1998. Garmaise was appointed assistant professor at Chicago Booth and joined UCLA Anderson as a visiting assistant professor in the finance area in 2001. Continue reading…

YouTube CEO Chosen to Speak at Anderson Graduation

UCLA Anderson School of Management announced that Susan Wojcicki (MBA ’98), chief executive officer of YouTube and former head of advertising and commerce at Google will deliver the commencement address to this year’s graduates. The ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on June 13, 2014.

Wojcicki is considered to be one of the world’s most well known technology executives and an early champion of online video. She now supervises YouTube’s content and business operations, engineering and product development.

Wojcicki has been named one of Fortune’s “50 Most Powerful Women in Business,” one of Forbes’ “100 Most Powerful Women” and one of Vanity Fair’s “50 leading innovators [who] shake the foundations of their industries.” Continue reading…
