Lerner Alumnus Named AACSB Influential Leader

Lerner College of Business alumnus Thomas Pike has been recognized as one of AACSB’s Influential Leaders. Pikes one of the first 100 influential leaders recognized by AACSB. The group of selected individuals are from a variety of backgrounds but all share qualities that exemplify their roles as a visionary figure in the business community. Pike currently serves as the CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical outsourcing services companies in the country, Quintiles.

This year’s group of AACSB Influential Leaders list includes professionals from more than 20 different industries and sectors including healthcare, non-profits and consumer products from 21 different countries. Individuals on this list were nominated by their alma-mater to recognize their outstanding efforts to produce a positive change in the world. The recognition was created to showcase the benefits of studying business at an AACSB-accredited institution and how business school graduates can generate positive outcomes for society.

Lerner Opens New Facility for MBA Programs

The Alfred Lerner College of Business at the University of Delaware, has opened its new home for MBA students. The new facility is located at One South Main Street on the UD campus. It will serve as a hub for activity and resources for MBA students, faculty and staff. The University hopes that the new facility and its technology will help to encourage and facilitate collaborative learning between students and faculty.

The construction for Lerner College also includes the front of Purnell Hall, one of the college’s main buildings. The extension now has more than double the space available for the JPMorgan Chase Innovation Center, the site that is home to a collaboration with UD’s Lerner College, the College of Engineering and JPMorgan Chase. Other changes to Purnell Hall include additional room on the second, third and fourth floors for 20 faculty offices and workspace for 16 graduate students; offices to house the Institute for Financial Services Analytics and students in the doctoral program in Financial Services Analytics as well as conference rooms.

Lerner Holds Fall Graduate Festival

The Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics celebrated almost 70 recipients of graduate degrees during its Fall Graduate Festival. Graduate students and their families enjoyed a cocktail reception, followed by a ceremony, which briefly honored each graduate.

The group of graduates included students from countries including China, South Korea, Europe and India. During his congratulatory address, Lerner College Dean Bruce Weber said that UD’s diverse graduate degree options give students the opportunity to customize their experiences.

UDel Holds Startup Competition

The University of Delaware’s Horn Program in Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Club (E-Club) will host their fall elevator pitch competition on Friday, Nov. 7. “Pitch Your Path” is a fast-paced competition designed to highlight the best entrepreneurial ideas that UD students have to offer.

This edition of the bi-annual series asks students to think about their careers and to recognize the importance of being entrepreneurial to their career success.

Lerner Student Opens Biz in West Chester

Lerner College of Business and Economics MBA student Matt Kay has opened a new weightless floating spa in West Chester, Pennsylvania. His spa is the largest of its kind within 125 miles.

During therapeutic floating, a client enters a tub containing water as well as over 1,000 pounds of Epsom salts. The density of this mixture allows the client to float effortlessly in the water, inducing a state of deep meditative relaxation and alleviating physical discomfort.
