Smith School Professor Up for Thinkers50 List

It may not be election season yet, but one professor at the Robert H. Smith School of Business is looking for his network to rock the vote. Anil Gupta, Michael D. Dingman Chair in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Smith School is nominated for Thinkers50, a list of the world’s 50 most influential living management thinkers. When it was launched in 2001, the Thinkers50 was the first-ever global ranking of management thinkers and has been published every two years since.

Smith Alum to Run For President

Move over Hillary—Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina has announced her bid to become the first woman president of the United States. Fiorina also happens to be an MBA graduate (class of ‘80) of the Robert H. Smith School of Business.

As an alum, Fiorina has remained active in the Smith community. According to a press release on the Smith website, she donated $100,000 to the Smith School’s Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship in 2007 and has remained engaged at the university. Continue reading…

Smith School Wins For Special Olympics at Duke MBA Games

Duke University’s basketball team may have won it all in this year’s March Madness tournament, but it was a team from the Robert H. Smith School of Business that took home hardware in April’s Duke MBA Games.

Since 1989, Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business has hosted an annual weekend event for teams from the country’s top MBA to take part in friendly competition alongside Special Olympics Athletes. In this years competition, MBA students from the Smith School won the first place prize, according to a press release on the Smith School website. Smith School Hosts New Emerging Markets Competition For MBAs

A team of MBAs from the Robert H. Smith School of Business won a $2,000 first place prize at the school’s inaugural Emerging Markets Forum Case Competition at Smith’s DC campus, according to an article by Andrew Kneale on the business school’s website.

Overall, teams from top MBA programs across the country competed to provide the best set of recommendations to the Global Alliance for the Improvement of Nutrition (GAIN).The event was a collaborative effort between Smith’s Center for International Business Education Research (CIBER), the MBA Emerging Markets Association and Smith’s MBA Net Impact chapter, expanding the activity of the university’s annual Emerging Markets Forum.
