MIT Sloan Uncovers Innovative PTSD Treatment for Army Veterans
MIT Sloan recently published an article detailing innovative new research from the school’s Post Traumatic Stress Innovations team that may transform how post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is treated in the “2 million men and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan”—30 percent of whom are “expected to develop a serious mental health problem.”
The 2016 Military Friendly Schools List Includes Alliant International University
On November 5, Victory Media released its 2016 Military Friendly Schools report. Sixteen colleges, trade schools, and universities in San Diego made it onto the list of “military friendly” schools, including Alliant International University, Point Loma Nazarene University, and UC San Diego. This is the seventh year Victoria Media’s Military Friendly® ratings reviewed post-secondary schools to discover who had the leading programs for veterans, members of the Armed Forces leaving military service, and military spouses. Veteran’s Day: Getting Your MBA After the Military
The prospect of going to business school for your MBA after leaving the military can be daunting. The military and university classes do not seem to have a strong connection. However, that’s not the case. Most MBA programs place a strong emphasis on leadership, and for military personnel, that’s a well-understood concept. In an article for the Military Times, Mary Lea McAnally, the Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at A&M’s Mays Business School, stressed that for veterans, who are already well schooled in leadership, “this transition is not going to be as hard as you think,” Mary said. “What they’ve done in the military is so applicable to business school—and business when they graduate.” Continue reading…
SJU Veterans Bootcamp Program Now Accepting Applications
The Haub School of Business is now accepting applications for the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans. St. Joseph’s was accepted into the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) in early 2015. EBV is an entrepreneurial and small business education program at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. The program is run by Syracuse’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families. The first class for the program at SJU will begin the program in spring 2016.
The program is open to any interested post-9/11 veteran with a disability and an honorable discharge status. Those interested in attending the program can visit www.sju.edu/veterans. The deadline for the 2016 program application is December 18, 2015.
Lubin Holds Accelerated Military Admissions Event
The Lubin School of Business will be holding a special admissions event for military personnel. The “Military Monday” event will be an accelerated admissions event for any veteran, reservist, and active duty military that plan to apply to the Business School. The event will held on Monday, Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prospective students who apply during this event will have the $70 graduate application fee waived.
GI Bill Now Accepted to Cover Exec Education Costs at Columbia
The Columbia Business School has recently announced that student veterans are now able to use their GI Bill to cover the costs of the Columbia Executive Education program. The request to include funding for executive education programs by Columbia was approved by The New York State Department of Veterans Affairs. Previously, the GI Bill could only be applied to degree granting programs in New York state. The approval of the coverage expansion will give students the opportunity to complete the Certificate in Business Excellence programs at Columbia.
Columbia offers students several different Comprehensive Management Programs at the executive education level. These programs include, Advanced Management, General Manager Leadership, Columbia Essentials of Management and Mastering Management. The school also provides several other executive education programs as well as programs designed for specific organizations.
