Smith School Hosts New Emerging Markets Competition For MBAs
A team of MBAs from the Robert H. Smith School of Business won a $2,000 first place prize at the school’s inaugural Emerging Markets Forum Case Competition at Smith’s DC campus, according to an article by Andrew Kneale on the business school’s website.
Overall, teams from top MBA programs across the country competed to provide the best set of recommendations to the Global Alliance for the Improvement of Nutrition (GAIN).The event was a collaborative effort between Smith’s Center for International Business Education Research (CIBER), the MBA Emerging Markets Association and Smith’s MBA Net Impact chapter, expanding the activity of the university’s annual Emerging Markets Forum. Alumni Spotlight: George Washington School of Business’ Ian Newberg
Ian Newberg, George Washington University School of Business BA’88 and MBA ‘90, was recently promoted to the position of Vice-President of Business Development at Americas for Cubic Corporation. This American public corporation provides military defense equipment and automated fare collection equipment. McDonough MBAs Assist in Aspen Institute Research
Three MBAs from the McDonough School of Business received some hands-on research experience while contributing to a new Aspen Institute impact investing report. MBA students Stefanie Miller, Michael Skvasik and Michael McLaughlin worked with Melissa Bradley, professor of the practice at the McDonough, to research and develop a survey of active and emerging investors to assess their activity and interest related to investments in education, economic security, and health and well-being. McDonough Hosting Student Startups in Summer Incubator
The Startup Hoyas Summer Launch Program at the McDonough School of Business will host 17 entrepreneurial ventures this summer in its startup incubator program. This special summer program is designed specifically for current students and recent graduates who want to launch a new venture.
The program’s various benefits include: dedicated support from Georgetown faculty, mentors, and other experienced entrepreneurs; work space in the business school’s Rafik B. Hariri Building on the Georgetown campus; introductions to local investors and entrepreneurs, including access to the 1776 startup incubator; invitations to exclusive networking events; and the opportunity to present their ideas to the DC entrepreneurial community.
