Notes From Kellogg’s Health Care Symposium

More than 413,000 Kentucky residents enrolled for health care coverage via kynect, the state’s health benefit exchange, last year. This was an impressive result given the states rank among the worst in the nation for health outcomes. Carrie Banahan, kynect Executive Director, spoke at about these health care figures and more at a conference cohosted by the Kellogg School of Business and Get Covered Illinois, Illinois’ health insurance marketplace. The symposium featured the executive directors of seven state-based exchanges along with top leadership from two additional exchanges.

Smeal College of Business Students Hold Africa Business Forum
Judith Egbas, MBA ’15 at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, helmed the first Smeal Africa Business Forum, which took place on the Penn campus in April, in order to educate attendees on the growing business opportunities in African countries.
Egbas, who come from Nigeria, said “I wanted to create an event where people could learn about African business. I came up with the idea after attending the Diwali event, which is an opportunity for MBA students to learn more about Indian culture.” Continue reading…
Babson to Team Up with the Small Business Administration for National Small Business Week
The F.W. Olin School of Business – Babson College has announced that the school will be one of 40 partners to team up with the Small Business Administratio which hosts the National Small Business Week. National Small Business Week is hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration in order to recognize the nation’s top small businesses, entrepreneurs, small business advocates and champions.
Scheduled to kick off events on May 12 in San Francisco, the annual week-long celebrations will continue on May 13th in Kansas City, May 15th in Boston and then culminate in Washington DC over May 15-16. Activities in all four cities will feature nationally recognized speakers, workshops, expert panels on a variety of entrepreneurial topics, and business matchmaking opportunities. Speakers will include such notable leaders as Gail Goodman, CEO of Constant Contact, Janet Yellen, Chair of the Federal Reserve , former NFL star and motivational speaker Eddie Kennis and Henry W. Bloch, Co-Founder of H&R Block. The national celebrations will culminate with the presentation of the National Small Business Person of the Year award in Washington. D.C., on May 16. Continue reading…
