Earlier this month, Google found itself in the midst of controversy after an internal memo from now-former employee James Damore was released to the staff. His out-of-nowhere diatribe claimed, more or less, that women are less biologically capable of being software engineers than their male counterparts. Zicklin Alum Launches Fintech Communications Firm
Jessica Schaefer, former Vice President of Corporate Communications at Point72 and Point72 Ventures—the company’s venture capital extension—has formally launched her brand new fintech communications firm Bevel. Yahoo! Finance reports that the company will focus on “fintech, hedge funds, enterprise software, venture capital firms, big data, artificial intelligence (A.I.), professional services and regulatory technology.”

MBAs Go Head-to-Head in Smith School’s M&A Competition
Students from the nation’s top MBA programs went head to head at the Robert H. Smith School of Business 8th annual Mergers and Acquisitions Competition from October 23-24. The competition tasked students with analyzing a hypothetical case based on the Internet Software & Services industry. The teams, with up to four members each, used data tools from event sponsor Standard and Poor’s Capital IQ to prepare their analyses before pitching their merger and acquisition alternatives to a panel of judges including corporate executives.

Smith MBA Students Come in Second at Rutgers-Camden Case Competition
A team of MBAs representing the Smith School of Business finished runner-up in Rutgers-Camden Business Schools MBA Invitational Case Tournament. The University of Western Ontario won the competition while other participating schools include the University of South Carolina, the University of Western Ontario, and the Smith School, which has participated most often in the history of the tournament.
